Why Skims is a Must Shop Before the Summer!

Skims is one of Kim Kardashian’s most successful business ventures attracting interest from people of all shapes, sizes and skin tones around the world! So far Skims has collaborated with fashion brands, Fendi and Swarovski, professional athletic teams like the WNBA, NBA, Team USA as well as many celebrities, not only boosting its name, but also revolutionizing the fashion industry.

Skims, one of Kim Kardashian’s numerous business ventures, has taken the world by tremendous storm! Kim’s vision of creating a solution-centered fashion brand creating the next generation of underwear, loungewear and shapewear for men and women has certainly been fulfilled through the popular fashion brand.

Skims was a collaboration between Kim and one of the most successful couples working in the fashion business, Emma and Jens Grede. This dynamic trio launched the first collections of the clothing line on August 26, 2019. The company was valued at a $4 billion net worth in July 2023 and earned many awards commemorating its success including the 2022 CFDA Fashion Award, 2022 Dynamic Yield Personalization Expert award and Kim herself earned the Brand Innovator award by the Wall Street Journal in 2021.

Spreading awareness on body positivity and ensuring inclusivity is one of the central missions of Skims. A common perception about shapewear is that it is an unappealing, girdle-like item serving as a tool to hide certain body parts. Skims however aims to provide a stylish product that will accentuate one’s curves while celebrating every part of the individual’s body. The message is further emphasized by all the ways in which Skims had promoted inclusivity through a diverse range of products fitting all shapes, sizes and skin tones. Kim has expressed her profound interest in wearing minimalist items following major trends. During an interview with Vogue UK, she shares what she felt was missing from the shapewear industry:

“I used to cut up and sew different styles of shapewear together to create the silhouette I wanted because I could never find the shape I was looking for. Other brands would either flatten my curves, pinch into my skin or roll down. I would also dye pieces with tea bags to match my skin tone as there was such a limited offering of colors on the market. All this experimenting made me notice a gap in the market and realize that there hadn’t been any innovation in this space for so long. It felt like the perfect time to bring a fresh perspective to the shapewear industry that would feel relevant for today.”

Kim has worked diligently to ensure that all customers feel a sense of empowerment and comfortability while wearing a the product. She firmly believes in the saying that when you feel your best, you look your best!

One of the ways Skims has bolstered its success has been through collaborating with high-end brands like Fendi and Swarovski. The Skims x Fendi collection launched on November 9, 2021 garnering a huge success. The capsule collection is a seamless blend of both brands including shapewear, lingerie, swimwear, outerwear and accessories, and was inspired by late fashion designer, Karl Lagerfield’s 1979. The first collection features form fitting top and tank dresses made from engineered velvet, embossed knitwear and printed one-piece swimsuits and see-through lingerie. Not only did the two brands sell out of its highest-priced items first, but they each earned a million dollars in profit within the first 24 hours of the launch.

The Swarovski x Skims collection made a bright, glitzy, glamorous debut hosted at the Swarovski New York City Fifth Avenue store on November 7, 2023. This exquisite collection clashes crystals with curves creating a luxurious figure ensuring “everybody shines like an icon”. The hit fashion line features Skims must haves like bodysuits, bralettes and body hugging maxi dresses as well as waist and body chains. The collection has a rather expansive price range with cotton bralettes starting at $248 to crystal-laden body chains going for $3,300. Following the Skims mission of inclusivity, this line caters to a large, diverse clientele making it so the collection was close to selling out less than a day after its launch.

Kim is one of the most respectable, influential and powerful figures in the media. Her long-lasting career as a model only continues to thrive, she has lead numerous successful businesses in distinct fields as well as pursued a longtime interest in law. This has allowed her to obtain one of the most epic ambassador lineups across the fashion industry, with Skims not even being five years old. Within that time the fashion brand is represented by many A-list stars, influencers and athletes including, Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Lana Del Rey, Snoop Dogg, SZA, Patrick Mahomes, Usher and many more!
