HBO dominated at the Emmys and these celebrity reactions should tell you why
It’s no secret that HBO dominated the 2020 Primetime Emmys. HBO topped all other platforms with 30 total wins. Astonishingly, most of these wins were racked up by four shows. Watchmen, Succession, Euphoria, and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver. Turns out we’re not the only people who are massive fans of these shows. Celebrities are celebrating right along with us!
Watchmen was the biggest winner of the night with eleven Emmys. These awards included Outstanding limited series, Outstanding supporting actor in a Limited Series or Movie, and Outstanding lead actress in a limited series or movie. Stars were ecstatic as Regina King received her fourth Emmy and breakout Yahya Abdul-Mateen II got his first. Watchmen dealt with an alternative look at American history involving superheroes and how that impacts race in the country. Regina King starred as a police officer and vigilante trying to put together the pieces of her family history.
Padma Lakshmi had this to say about the win:

Succession was the other big winner. The family drama took home seven Emmys including best drama series. Jeremy Strong’s performance as the emotionally destroyed Kendall Roy snagged the prize for best actor in a drama series.
Succession’s wins throughout the night meant that we heard the iconic theme song a couple times. Luckily, comedian Michelle Collins was just as overjoyed as we are.

No doubt the most iconic moment of the night was Zendaya’s historic Emmy win for best actress in a drama series. She is not only the second black actress to ever win the award, but also the youngest. In her first leading role, Zendaya played Rue Bennet, a struggling teenage drug addict. Fans around the world were captured by Zendaya’s powerhouse performance and celebrities flocked to Twitter to congratulate the winner.
Zendaya’s on screen sister Storm Reid was one of the first to scream with delight:

One thing is very clear, HBO is clearly killing the game right now. With Watchmen officially over, we still have Euphoria season 2 and Succession season 3 to look forward to. What shows are you excited to see next on HBO?
