What comes next for Rue and Jules? Here’s everything we know about Euphoria season two.
Euphoria fans are still reeling from the two special episodes HBO Max dropped this holiday season. Dedicated solely to the characters of Rue and Jules the episodes dealt primarily with internal conflict. The specials worked to reconcile the relationship between the two women in the aftermath of the season one finale. Despite the fact that they reunited at the end of Jules’s episode, there is still a lot of work to be done between the pair. After all, Rue is still deep in the throes of her addiction while Jules struggles to get over her online love Tyler who turned out to be the abusive school bully Nate Jacobs.
While these episodes gave us a closer look at Rue and Jules, fans of characters like Maddy Perez or Cassie Howard might be wondering when we’ll see them again. According to series creator Sam Levinson, hopefully, sooner rather than later. In an interview with Indiewire to promote his upcoming film Malcolm & Maire, Levinson expressed a desire to film and release new episodes this year. The plan would be to get back to filming in March with a new episode rollout beginning by the end of December. This is a rather ambitious plan and could be easily disrupted due to the pandemic that continues to rage across the United States. After all, cameras had just begun rolling on season two in March 2020 when the pandemic began and forced a change of plans.
If everything goes right we can expect to see a new season of Euphoria by the end of 2021. The good news is that it seems the writing process for the season has been completed and the only thing left to do is resume production. New cast member Kelvin Harrison Jr., who you might recognize from the 2019 indie hit Waves praised the still in development season saying, “The scripts are so first-rate and everybody is without a doubt excited for it.” The most important thing is focusing on the safety of the cast and crew as they navigate the new landscape of filmmaking during a pandemic.
Euphoria season two might be too far away to tide fans appetite. Luckily, Sam Levinson and series star Zendaya have been hard at work since the end of season one. Their latest joint effort Malcolm & Maire will be premiering on Netflix on February 5th. Malcolm & Maire follows a director played by Tenant star John David Washington and his wife (Zendaya) after the premiere of his latest film. As the night wears on the couple gets into a series of arguments, discussions, and physical entanglements. If you were a fan of the character based focus of Euphoria’s special episodes then Malcolm & Maire would be a perfect fit.
