‘The Ellen DeGenerous Show’ has started production on the newest season and there is a lot in store.
After quarantine and the summer off Ellen DeGeneres is back in the studio to kick off the 18th season of her show. DeGeneres says this will be a new chapter for the entire show.
A lot of new changes are coming to the show after some revelations about the work environment and covid-19. In her opening monologue the talk show host and comedian said, “I’m so happy to be back in the studio. There are a lot of things I want to talk about. I’ve been looking forward to addressing it all directly.”
Poking fun at the current circumstances of the world she continues, “And unfortunately, talking directly to the people has been illegal for six months, so I have a virtual audience here instead.”
She continues on to say, “As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show and then there was an investigation. I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected.”
This show is supposed to be a break and some fun, lighthearted entertainment from all that is going on in the world, especially nowadays.
DeGenerous addresses all that is currently taking place saying, “This has been a horrible summer for people all around the world, people are losing their jobs, people are losing loved ones to a pandemic, people are losing their homes and lives in raging fires that are going on. There’s blatant racial injustice all around us.”
The show has been an escape for her millions of viewers everyday and a way to help those in need.
“I watch the news, and I feel like where do we even begin? So my hope is that we can still be a place of happiness and joy. I still want to be the one hour a day that people can go to escape and laugh. I want to continue to help all the people that we help everyday. And I am committed to making this the best season we have ever had.”
This is exactly what Ellen did, bringing a deserving family of 7 siblings, who lost their mom to a brain aneurysm four years ago, $75,000 to help them keep their house.
We can only expect more big checks to help out even more families in need during these challenging times along with some amazing celebrity friends. The lineup of celebrities for the first week includes Kerry Washington, Alec Baldwin, Chris Rock, Amy Schumer, Adam Sandler and Orlando Bloom.
The show’s DJ Stephen ‘Twitch’ is even set to host an episode later this season. His dancing will continue to be a staple in the show, something we can all look forward to.
We don’t know if any of the game segments will be able to come back with current covid safety measures but we will just have to tune in to see.
