Margot Robbie’s production company LuckyChap Entertainment has a few projects underway in 2024 including ‘My Year of Rest and Relaxation’, ‘Borderline’ and ‘Naughty’ with notable stars such as Olivia Wilde, Jimmy Warden, Maddie Ziegler, Eric Dane, and more!
Margot Robbie is one of the most famous actresses in the world right now. Robbie’s versatility as an actress has allowed her to play various characters including her role as Naomi Lapaglia in the 2013 blockbuster The Wolf of Wall Street, taking on the villainous character Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad in 2016 and recently becoming Barbie in 2023. In addition to these famous films, Robbie has starred in many other productions, showcasing her extraordinary acting talent. Robbie has also demonstrated her expertise as a producer. In 2014, Robbie and her husband, Tom Ackerley, started their own production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, which produces films made by and for women. LuckyChap is working on several movies this year, including My Year of Rest and Relaxation, Naughty, and Borderline. Most of the information regarding these projects is being kept under wraps, namely who’s involved both on and off camera and specific release dates. Nonetheless, from what we know about these three films, they will be a must-see.
My Year of Rest and Relaxation, based on the best-selling novel by American novelist Ottessa Moshfegh that was published in 2018, tells the story of a woman who wants to sleep for a year following the death of her parents. Throughout the novel, the woman escalates the number of prescribed sleeping pills she is taking and only wakes to drink coffee and watch old movies. This novel has also been used in a play directed by Yana Ross, an American director, and performed by the Swiss theater group Schauspielhaus Zurich in 2020. Moshfegh confirmed that she had been collaborating on the screenplay with Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, which is now complete.
Besides Lanthimos, there has yet to be a word on who we should expect to be starring in the film. Robbie expressed her interest in it in 2019 when LuckyChap purchased the rights to produce a film adaptation. Before this, LuckyChap recommended the book to its viewers as the protagonist’s storyline powerfully represents their goal of promoting female-focused film and television productions.
The novel was also trending on TikTok when first published, especially for those interested in the hyper-feminine TikTok aesthetic. Eva, a TikTok influencer (@yearofthedragoness) who makes literature-related content, comments on My Year of Rest and Relaxation, “I think Moshfegh and her peers – Sally Rooney, Elif Bautman – are very accessible writers who are making reading a hobby that ‘hot girls’ want to pick up.”
Even though we don’t know much about when and who we should expect to see in this film, given the success attributed to Moshfegh’s novel, great things are expected from the movie.

Borderline is a thriller comedy that we are looking forward to and follows the story of a sociopath who escapes a mental institution and breaks into the home of a pop superstar he is obsessed with. The Australian actress Samara Weaving, who starred in the horror comedies The Babysitter (2017) and Ready or Not (2019), will be playing the protagonist. The American actor famous for his role in the television series Grey’s Anatomy, Eric Dane, is also cast in the movie. Lastly, American actor Ray Nicholson, best known for his leading role in Out of the Blue, has also confirmed his involvement with the project.
Borderline was written and directed by screenwriter Jimmy Warden, who scripted the horror and comedies Cocaine Bear (2023) and The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2023). LuckyChap will co-produce Borderline with the production company Productivity Media Inc (PMI). PMI will also be bankrolling the project as producer and CEO of William G. Santor states, “Productivity Media is excited to co-produce with LuckyChap on this distinctive and startling comedic thriller […], and we look forward to bringing Borderline to audiences very soon.”
LuckyChap has withheld other information regarding this production, but the cast list and Warden’s specialty for horror have audiences excited for the project to be released.

Naughty is a Christmas comedy that LuckyChap will also be taking on and it recites the story of the protagonist, Mallory, who is trying to obtain custody of her son from her hateful ex-partner. To procure custody of her son, Mallory must track Santa down so he can advocate for her in her divorce hearing. The movie has been described as “Bridesmaids in the North Pole,” referring to the highly rated female-driven comedy released in 2011.
Actress and director Olivia Wilde will direct this film. Wilde’s most well-known works as a director are the thriller and mystery Don’t Worry Darling (2022) and the thriller comedy Booksmart (2019). Robbie states her excitement that Wilde is producing the Christmas comedy as FilmUpdates, the Twitter account that shares the latest celebrity news updates, shares Robbie’s statement on Twitter. Robbie reports, “Olivia WIlde’s ‘NAUGHTY’ is moving “quite quickly” and should be the next film she produces.”
Naughty was written by Warden, making this his second collaboration with LuckyChap. Robbie has not revealed much regarding the project besides the storyline and who will be working behind the camera. Given Warden’s previous partnership with LuckyChap and Wilde’s recent success with her films with female protagonists, Naughty is anticipated to be a stellar holiday comedy.

Robbie is a hands-on producer and goes above and beyond to ensure a successful filmmaking experience. Variety reports that she requests to be CC’ed on every email concerning a project and even assisted with monitoring the number of gallons of pink paint needed for Barbie. Additionally, Robbie was forced to stand her ground when a producer of Oppenheimer, Chuck Roven, called her, advising her to push back the release date for Barbie so they wouldn’t have to compete with the thriller. Robbie responded with, “We’re not moving our date. If you’re scared to be up against us, then you move your date”, reported Entertainment Tonight (E.T.).
Robbie was also honored with the Producer of the Year award at the Variety 2023 Power of Women Awards. Robbie’s acceptance speech was delivered by her partner, Tom, and co-producer, Tom McNamara. The trio made a joke about two men speaking for a woman at a Power of Women event, which Robbie acknowledged in her speech. Robbie wrote, “But it’s me, Margot writing this. I have to say the only thing I love more than seeing women supporting women is seeing men supporting women. I have watched for the last 10 years as these two dudes have dedicated their careers to supporting women in this industry and nothing could make me love them more.”
LuckyChap has shown a pattern of typically revealing a film synopsis and those who will be behind the scenes making the story come to life. This shines a light on their filmmaking process and emphasizes the importance of getting a story right while hooking their audience in. Robbie’s work in 2023 produced Barbie and Saltburn. What has been revealed about her upcoming films has the LuckyChap audience on the edge of their seats!
