What The New Cast and Characters Of The Boys Could Mean

In addition to Jensen Ackles’s Soldier Boy, season 3 of Amazon Prime’s The Boys will be introducing a few more superheroes to the subversive show!

Including Sean Patrick Flannery (The Boondock Saints), Nick Wechsler (Revenge), and Miles Gaston Villanueva (Law and Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders). However, unlike Soldier Boy, none of the characters these actors will be playing are taken from the source material and instead are confirmed to be originals made specifically for the show.

While not much is known about these characters or what their role in the show will be yet, let’s talk about some of the possibilities.

Sean Patrick Flannery as Gunpowder

With a superhero name like Gunpowder, it seems like Sean Patrick Flannery’s character will focus primarily on firearms, perhaps with a similar skillset to the DC Universe’s Deadshot. In a show populated by superheroes with supernatural abilities, it could be interesting to see how a hero like that could stand in Vought International.

If Gunpowder’s abilities do end up revolving around bullet-based weapons, the Boondock Saints star is sure to be a perfect pick.

Nick Wechsler as Blue Hawk

The Revenge actor is suiting up as Blue Hawk, a character whose name could mean a lot of different things. A likely possibility is that Blue Hawk has some sort of wings, whether they be organic or man-made, and introduces an additional flying superhero to Vought International. It would be pretty cool to see a character in The Boys fly differently than the Superman-inspired Homelander.

Although Blue Hawk’s powers will most likely revolve around some form of wings, there is a possibility that his name could connote bird-like eyesight, similar to the enhanced eyesight of Marvel’s Hawkeye. However, with the inclusion of Eagle the Archer last season, it seems unlikely that Blue Hawk’s abilities would also include a bow and arrow.

Miles Gaston Villenueva as Supersonic

With a name like Supersonic, fans can expect a lot of different things from Miles Gaston Villenueva in season 3. Supersonic could refer to speed-based powers, possibly setting up a rivalry for Jessie T Usher’s A-Train now that he is back in Vought’s The Seven. His name could also possibly mean the use of supersonic screams, very similar to the DC Universe’s Black Canary.

If Supersonic does end up having speed-related powers, The Boys could possibly have the character set in the past with Jensen Ackles’s Soldier Boy, a superhero with a story similar to Marvel’s Captain America. Much like Supersonic, Gunpowder and Blue Hawk could also be part of Soldier Boys 20th-century superhero team, touted as Vought’s “The Seven before The Seven.”

As of right now, no other details about these new characters or the plot of season 3 have been released yet, but hopefully, that changes soon!
