Jenna Ortega makes the perfect Wednesday Addams in the new series as a teenage version of the beloved character. Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday in the 1991 film The Addams Family and the 1993 film The Addams Family Values, appears as Ms. Thornhill, a staff member of Nevermore academy. Gwendoline Christie plays the school’s headmistress who attended the academy with Morticia and Gomez played by Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán. Fred Armisen also takes up the role of the iconic Uncle Fester.

The series is produced by Tim Burton and he also directed 4 of the episodes so it is no surprise the series combines quirk and gloom simultaneously. It’s cleverly written, and the humor is dark, dry, and deadpan. The references to Edgar Allen Poe also add to the spooky feel of the show. The coming-of-age thriller is equally chilling as it is funny, and fans are obsessed with the straight-faced humor and ironic wit of the main character, as well as the quirkiness of some side characters.

The entertaining mystery-thriller storyline will leave you on the edge of your seat with this not-so-typical whodunit. The eight episodes will likely suck you in so much that you reach the season finale before you know it. The series is incredibly charming and bingeable; our fingers are crossed for a second season.

Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning composer Danny Elfman created the theme and scores for the episodes. Other famous artists such as Beach House, Metallica, and Dua Lipa are also featured on some tracks. It’s not shocking that fans of the show have been raving about the music.

The show was filmed in several locations in Romania and perfectly matched the chilling vibe of Nevermore Academy. Many fans were charmed by the setting and were surprised to learn where it was filmed. Other Romanian fans were also excited to see their country on display.
