With two title matches, a new fighter’s uniform, and signing former pro wrestler CM Punk to make his MMA debut in the octagon, UFC 181 proved to be one of the most newsworthy pay-per-view events of the year. In the main event, Johny ‘Bigg Rigg’ Hendricks faced ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler in a rematch for the UFC welterweight title, while UFC lightweight champion Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis defended his title against Gilbert ‘El Nino’ Melendez in the co-main event. As if these two matches weren’t fireworks enough, the undercard delivered with highlight reel finishes from Travis ‘Hapa’ Browne, Todd Duffee, and Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson, giving the UFC AfterBuzz team (Daria Berenato, George Hermoza, and Jay Tan) more than enough to cover.
Joining the team in-studio are Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) fighters John Robles and Altair ’Tratorzinho’ Alancar, who fought at RFA 21 in Costa Mesa, the night before UFC 181. Run by president Ed Soares (manager to UFC fighters Anderson ’The Spider’ Silva and Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida), the RFA has proven to be a strong and reliable developmental system to the UFC. From their 21 events, they’ve delivered over 30 fighters to the big leagues, including Sergio Pettis, Randa Marcos, and former UFC AfterBuzz guests Alan ‘Brahma’ Jouban, Christos Giagos, and Brian ’T-City’ Ortega.
