Cult-classic television shows like Stranger Things, Gossip Girl, and New Girl have introduced actors we adore. But you may not realize that these actors are dynamic musicians as well. If you can’t get enough of these television stars, wait until you hear about their music!
Joe Keery
Did you know Steve Harrington can sing??? When he’s not busy playing a heartthrob in Stranger Things, Joe Keery creates music under the stage name “Djo”. Keery started his music career in college, after joining Psychedelic Rock-Band Post Animal. In 2019, Keery released his debut solo album, “Twenty Twenty”.
Finn Wolfhard
Keery isn’t the only musician from the Stranger Things universe! Wolfhard portrays the loyal and intelligent protagonist Mike Wheeler in the series. Wolfhard served as lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter for Vancouver-based rock band Calpurnia. What can’t the kid do? After Calpurnia dissolved in 2019, Wolfhard created a new band, The Aubreys. The Aubreys released their debut album in 2021.
Dylan Minette
Dylan Minnette is best known for his portrayal of Clay Jensen on the Netflix original series 13 Reasons Why. This year, he was featured in Hulu’s The Dropout and the latest addition to the Scream franchise. As if this wasn’t enough, Minnette is the singer and rhythm guitarist for the popular indie band The Wallows. The band has released two albums and performed at Coachella in 2022.
Taylor Momsen
One thing Gossip Girl failed to reveal is that little Jenny Humphry is a talented musician! Taylor Momsen appeared in a key role in the CW drama series from 2007 to 2012. Since then, Momsen has retired from acting and committed all her time to be the frontwoman of the rock band, The Pretty Reckless.
Zoe Kravitz
As daughter to rock legend Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet, it only makes sense that Zoe Kravitz would be highly-accomplished as both an actor and musician. Kravitz has a long list of film credits but TV fans will recognize her from HBO’s Big Little Lies and Hulu’s High Fidelity. In 2020, Kravitz released music under her electro-pop group Lolawolf. She’s currently working with accomplished producer and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff on her debut solo album.
Zoeey Deschanel
Who’s that girl? It’s Jess…and she can sing? In fact, Zooey Deschanel sang the infamous New Girl theme song. In addition to being television’s favorite quirky girl, Deschanel is half of the musical duo She & Him, where she sings, plays piano, and the ukelele. The band has released six successful albums.
