Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama have both released best-selling memoirs and accomplished plenty of impressive feats in their lengthy careers. However, the power couple is now adding comedy show producers to their resumes!
According to Vanity Fair, the Obamas are developing a Netflix series that is “part documentary, part comedy sketch” about the “chaotic transition of power” that occurred when Donald Trump assumed the role in 2016. This comes two years after the 44th president announced he and Mrs. Obama had signed a multiyear production deal with the streaming platform.
Even though President Obama originally told associates he did not plan on launching a campaign against his successor, it seems those intentions changed. The comedic docu-series, named The G Word With Adam Conover, is based on Michael Lewis’s 2018 novel The Fifth Risk. The book recounts the unorganized, botched presidential transition, especially among federal agencies and the seemingly inexperienced appointees who took over.
It’s also important to note that the Obamas purchased the rights for Lewis’s book back in 2018 with their production company Higher Ground Productions.
The “g-word” in the show’s title is for government, and the Adam Conover mentioned is the very same creator and host of truTV’s Adam Ruins Everything. The comedian first mentioned he was working on the project in a Tweet he shared in mid-November.
As exciting as this new collaboration is, Conover’s Tweets also confirmed that Adam Ruins Everything ended with the last episode of season three also being the series finale of the comedic 30-minute show. He will at least appear on screen with this new project!
Production for The G Word With Adam Conover is expected to begin sometime in early 2021, but there’s no set expectation for when it will arrive on Netflix. In the meantime, Donald Trump may share his thoughts about the series on Twitter so keep your eyes on the trending page!
