‘Suicide Squad Isekai’: What To Expect!

DC Comics has taken to a new landscape for their universe, diving into the fantasy-anime genre of Isekai! Join us as we unpack what that means for our characters, the DC universe, and possible future collaborations between anime and comics!

Suicide Squad Isekai comes out on June 27, 2024, and with fans of both DC and anime eagerly awaiting its release, jump in with us as we talk about what to expect from the show!

What is Isekai?

Suicide Squad is diving into isekai, but what even is isekai? Isekai is a genre of anime that roughly translates to different world, or other world. The genre revolves around a character or cast of characters displaced into a different world, typically filled with magic, mythical creatures, and ancient history. The Suicide Squad is transported to this exact type of world, which will blend the gritty, action-packed squad with a whimsical, fantastical isekai world for them to explore.

Suicide Squad Isekai will be collaboratively produced by Wit Studio, which means we are in GREAT hands. Wit Studio has created some of the best anime ever to be released, including but not limited to Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, and Spy x Family. They’ve even participated in animating Pokémon

Who is in the Suicide Squad?

The Suicide Squad we’ll be following in this series features Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, Clayface, and Peacemaker, with other notable cameos such as the Joker, Enchantress, Katana, Killer Croc, and more! The cast is packed full of characters we know and love, with a breath of fresh air in a new lighthearted fantasy environment. With the Suicide Squad, you can expect plenty of absurd, hysterical interactions and action-packed conflicts.

What is the plot?

Suicide Squad consistently has a dark theme with crazy sequences of events, whereas in the isekai genre, things have order and are typically more lighthearted. When combining the two, it’s hard to guess where the show’s plot will take us, but here’s what we know so far.

The Suicide Squad is sent through a gate to a fantasy world to bring peace, attempting to end a war between a kingdom and an empire. With bombs around their necks and a time limit counting down to their explosion, it’s only natural that their first order of business is to go on a rampage; after being immediately arrested, they negotiate with Queen Aldora. The deal they agree on has their freedom riding on ending the conquest of the opposing imperial army.

Suicide Squad is predominately action with dark humor, so if you enjoy action-packed shows like Peacemaker, The Boys, or Fallout, definitely give this show a try. It isn’t DC’s first rodeo either; in 2018, they made an anime called Batman Ninja, so they already have some experience animating in the genre.

Suicide Squad Isekai is a unique twist on the genre of isekai, and we’re honestly so excited to see where DC and Warner Brothers will take us with our favorite band of misfits! Suicide Squad Isekai will air on Max and Hulu!
