We are neck deep in awards season with the 76th British Academy Film Awards just having aired! From the winners, to the style, to the just flat out weird here is what social media had to say.
While we are still a few weeks out from the Academy Awards, the 76th BAFTA Ceremony has come and gone. The BAFTAs are basically the British equivalent of the Oscars, celebrating the best of the year in film. The ceremony led to a pretty wild night. From some stand out fashion, to some surprise winners, to one of the more out there awards performances of the past few years, we have all of social media’s reactions.
All the stars were out in London, and people could not get enough of them. Especially Anya Taylor-Joy and Best Actor Nominee Paul Mescal.

The night also brought some surprising wins!
All Quiet on the Western Front was the big winner of the night, taking home seven trophies! Including Best Picture and Best Director!
And the BAFTA for Best Film goes to All Quiet On The Western Front! @allquietmovie @netflixuk #EEBAFTAs pic.twitter.com/jfTIMeZkad
— BAFTA (@BAFTA) February 19, 2023
This came as a pretty big surprise, as All Quiet beat films like Everything Everywhere All at Once and The Banshees of Inisherin, which were expected to take home big awards like picture and director.
Best Actor and Actress went to Austin Butler for Elvis and Cate Blanchette for Tár.

This cements the two of them as the front runners for the Oscar, and deservedly so, as both of them delivered incredible performances.
Butler also delivered an incredible speech.
Thinking about how the Oscars want people to give 45 second speeches like what a joke pic.twitter.com/PHfrl2lPyn

The ceremony didn’t go completely smoothly, as Carey Mulligan was accidentally announced as the winner for Best Supporting Actress when in reality, the award went to Kerry Condon.

Omg I wish they aired the BAFTAs live because they edited out the Carey Mulligan snafu and you can tell because it’s edited so weird

However, the most talked about moment from the night was Ariana DeBose’s opening rap performance that included a section on the women nominees.

Most people were….well confused about the performance.

Only time will tell if we Americans can step up to the plate and deliver a more out there awards ceremony with the Oscars.
