Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is maybe the biggest cinematic surprise of the year, and we’ve got the best of social media reactions!
After decades as the greatest sleepover game of all time (and a 2000 cinematic outing we don’t like to talk about), DnD has finally hit the big screen in Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The film, directed by Game Night’s John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, has surpassed all financial and critical expectations.

While the trailers for this film looked fun, this movie was a pleasant surprise for both movie addicts and casual filmgoers, reminding them just how much fun blockbuster cinema can be at its best.
DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS rocks. it feels pulled from the early 2000s in the best way, IE a swashbuckler that balances irony with heart, creative VFX with real sets, and a charming cast it’s a blast to hangout with. couldn’t have asked for a better time at the movies. following up here……honestly the greatest thing about the dungeons & dragons movie, imo, is the healthy quantity of both dungeons and dragons. does what it says on the tin!

the thing about the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS movie is that it 1) is a lot of fun! and 2) is in many ways structured identically to PADDINGTON 2

Dungeons & Dragons is the movie most people complain Hollywood doesn’t make movies like anymore. Played like gangbusters to my entire family. My 4-year-old wants the toys, my wife is returning to Skyrim, my 9-year-old is on the hunt for a Dungeon Master and I need to learn to DM. pic.twitter.com/HouNoky81b

Even Video Game legend, and Death Stranding creator, Hideo Kojima shared how much he loved the movie!

I saw “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” in IMAX because Sophia Lillis is in it. In fact this one surprised me! So-fxxking-funny! Great movie! I had had enough of the “sword and sorcery” stuff, but the visuals, the gimmicks, the look, it was all new! pic.twitter.com/wyVq7W77CF— HIDEO_KOJIMA (@HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN) April 2, 2023
Many fans of the film are celebrating the technical craftsmanship that went into making the world of Dungeons and Dragons into real life.

Crazy how rare it is to see a big-budget blockbuster constructed with care and a genuinely cinematic vision these days https://t.co/JtlUK74WXd

DnD fans are also pointing out the clever ways in which the film references the original tabletop game.
I appreciate the inclusion of Regè-Jean Page’s character in Honor Among Thieves. I get the sense he’s supposed to embody what most people think Dungeons & Dragons is, when in reality, it’s just one way to approach the game, hence him being the only character who’s… Like That pic.twitter.com/OHjh6hkWu6
