Saturday Night Live audience shocks cast by yelling curse word during unscripted Weekend Update bit, leaving Ego Nwodim and anchors stunned.
The Saturday Night Live audience got a little too real during a laugh-out-loud “Weekend Update” moment—shocking cast member Ego Nwodim, and leaving viewers in stitches.
During the April 5 episode of the iconic NBC sketch series, Nwodim, 37, appeared as her fan-favorite alter ego Ms. Eggy to poke fun at the White House Correspondents’ Association after they canceled comedian Amber Ruffin‘s scheduled performance at their upcoming dinner. Offering to take Ruffin’s place, Nwodim delivered a series of edgy one-liners as a preview of what she’d bring to the stage.
But the real twist came when she broke the fourth wall and asked the crowd, “These men ain’t what?”—only for the audience to loudly respond in unison with a not-safe-for-broadcast curse word: “S—.”
Completely stunned, Nwodim fired back with the hilarious line, “You finna get fined for that,” while “Weekend Update” anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che cracked up behind her.
“Lorne will be mad at y’all,” she added, referring to longtime SNL creator Lorne Michaels.
While the explicit moment was caught by NBC’s five-second delay and censored during the live broadcast, it slipped through onto streaming platforms before being muted in clips shared on SNL’s YouTube and social media pages. According to Deadline, the FCC has yet to confirm whether the show will face a fine. The infamous “seven dirty words” prohibited from U.S. broadcast TV include “piss,” “f—,” “c—,” “motherf—–,” and the word used by the SNL crowd.
Fans were quick to call the moment one of the best of the season, flooding social media with comments and begging for an uncensored version.
“How dare you censor it. That was one of the best moments of the season,” one fan commented.
“Watched it 6 times in a row, and was still laughing! Perfection!” another added.
“When the audience understood the assignment and said ‘S—!’ it was the most cathartic thing that ever happened,” wrote a third.
Even Michael Che’s reaction was a hit online, with many saying it was the hardest they’ve ever seen him laugh during “Weekend Update“.
This buzzy moment came during an episode hosted by Jack Black, who returned to SNL for the first time in 20 years and broke into song mid-monologue. The episode followed a previous week in which the show poked fun at country star Morgan Wallen—twice—after he abruptly left early during a past taping.
Saturday Night Live is set to return on April 12, with Jon Hamm taking over hosting duties and Lizzo as the musical guest.
