Fresh off a dominant night at the 97th Academy Awards, Anora took home four Oscars, including Best Picture. Star Mikey Madison won Best Actress for her portrayal of Ani, a Brooklyn sex worker who finds herself in a whirlwind romance with the son of a Russian oligarch. Sean Baker himself secured three additional Oscars—Best Director, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Screenplay—tying Walt Disney’s long-standing record for most Oscars won by a single person in one night.

Anora first premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the prestigious Palme d’Or, before hitting theaters on October 18, 2024. The film’s journey from Cannes to the Dolby Theatre echoes Neon’s previous success with Parasite, which won four Oscars in 2020 after its own Palme d’Or victory.

Sean Baker credited Quentin Tarantino for casting Mikey Madison in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which ultimately led him to choose her for Anora. The film follows Ani’s seemingly fairytale romance in Las Vegas that quickly turns into a high-stakes family drama when her new in-laws attempt to annul the marriage.

Neon, Anora’s distributor, has a deal with Hulu, where other major award-winning films like A Real Pain—starring Jesse Eisenberg and Oscar-winner Kieran Culkin—are also streaming.

Mark your calendars—this year’s biggest Oscar winner is coming to Hulu soon!
