The Scream franchise is no stranger to surprises, and Scream 7 is doubling down on nostalgia with the return of not one, but two former Ghostface killers.
Scott Foley (Scream 3) and Matthew Lillard (Scream, 1996) have officially joined the cast of the highly anticipated sequel from Spyglass and Paramount Pictures.

Scott Foley originally played Roman Bridger, the film director and secret half-brother of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), who orchestrated the events of Scream 3. His apparent death at the hands of Dewey Riley (David Arquette) seemed final, but in true Scream fashion, nothing is ever certain. Whether Scott Foley’s Roman returns through flashbacks, faked his death once again, or has a secret twin remains unknown.
I’m utterly amazed right now! I cannot believe that Scott Foley’s Roman Bridger is returning to SCREAM after 25 years!!! This film is going to be epic! #SCREAM7 pic.twitter.com/eqlvje4Xpk

Matthew Lillard, meanwhile, portrayed Stu Macher, one of the two original Ghostface killers in Scream. Stu seemingly met his end when Sidney crushed his head with a TV, but his long-rumored return has finally been confirmed. Could he have survived all these years? Is this a hallucination, a relative, or something else entirely?

Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard join a cast packed with both legacy and new stars, including Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, and Mark Consuelos.

Adding to the intrigue, Scream 7 marks a fresh creative shift for the series. Kevin Williamson, the writer behind the original Scream, is directing, taking over after Christopher Landon’s departure. This follows a tumultuous production period, with star Melissa Barrera fired in late 2024 and Jenna Ortega exiting shortly after due to scheduling conflicts.
With a mix of old and new faces, Scream 7 is shaping up to be a major event for fans of the franchise. But how will Roman and Stu’s returns be explained? The answers will come when the film slashes into theaters on February 27, 2026.
