Naya Rivera’s ex husband is speaking for the first time since rumor of him and Rivera’s sister started spreading
After the tragic death of Naya Rivera in July, her entire family has been adjusting to their new normal. Her son, Josey has been facing something unimaginable, losing his mother at the age of 5. Ryan Dorsey is now a single father having to handle all the parent responsibilities on his own, while also trying to grieve.
In Dorsey’s 12 minute Instagram video he says that explaining the 5 day search that they were doing for Naya, that she wasn’t coming home in the way Josey and they all had hoped, along with what a funeral is and going to it was so hard for the two of them.
Josey, like most 5-year-olds didn’t know what that all was before the accident happened, but he has grown up over night because of it.
Dorsey says, “at the age of 5 he has had to grow up so fast and grow up so many of us didn’t have to, without his mother.”
The entire situation has left Dorsey doing what he believes is best for his son and that includes Naya’s sister, Nickayla moving in with them temporarily as they try to navigate this new chapter.
“He asks me if Titi can live with us ‘I want Titi to live with us forever’ because she is now the closest thing he has to a mom.” Dorsey goes on to say, “I have to let him get what he wants, what he asks for and what he needs right now which is his family, even though you know it’s temporary it’s not forever, it’s a temporary situation. After all he has had to go through, how could you deny him that?”
Dorsey admits this hasn’t been easy for him either as he has lost a little over 20 pounds, doesn’t sleep and is sad everyday. Having Nickayla live with them has helped him as well, as he doesn’t have to be alone after Josey goes to bed. He shared this advice with others saying, “At least you have someone there to talk to, sit in silence, be sad with. You don’t have to deal with it completely alone.”
His advice continues when he says, “I hope you would be as lucky as me to have family on both sides who support and have helped out tremendously. To have a young woman who is his blood, his Titi, who is willing to put her life on hold and sacrifice things, uproot her situation for the betterment of your child.”
He addresses the rumors about Nickayla and him saying that they are grieving, living out of suitcases and trying to get settled into a new place. They were followed around Target, trying to get a couple things for his son’s birthday party, by two girls who took photos of them and at a certain angle it looks like they are holding hands, but Dorsey says that is not the case.
He ends his video by saying that he wasn’t going to say anything but didn’t want this to be another thought running through his mind. He asks everyone to be well, be safe and be kind. He hopes this makes a few people think before they insert their opinion into something they know nothing about.
