Inside the Riverdale cast’s Halloween Gathering and the new release date for seasons 5
Riverdale fans can breathe a sigh of relief now that the release date for season five has been updated. After season four of the highly popular teen drama was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa promised that the fifth season will cover all the ground season four lost. Season five will have extra episodes to achieve this, but it is unclear how many. These episodes will most likely cover the Riverdale High prom and the graduation of the main cast. Following this, there will be a seven year time jump, which means we will start following our favorite characters in their adult lives. The cast has been hard at work filming the fifth season in Vancouver with strict precautions to protect from COVID-19. If everything continues to go according to plan then season five should hit Netflix on January 21st 2021.
Apart from filming, the cast of Riverdale have been making the most of their quarantine. They recently got together to not only celebrate Halloween, but also the upcoming birth of Venessa Morgan’s (Toni Topaz) first child. Morgan dressed as a skeleton while her three co-stars Lili Reinhart, Madelaine Petsch and Camila Mendes donned an iconic Powerpuff Girls ensemble. The three girls fit their roles perfectly as they posed for a photo on Morgan’s balcony. Reinhert took on Bubbles’ blue color palette and pigtails while Mendes and Petsch went for green and red. Petsch even went the extra mile to employ Blossom’s big red bow. It makes perfect sense that fans have been requesting this costume from the trio for years. Reinhert even captioned her photo “You asked… we delivered. Powerpuff Girls ❤️ .”
The girls weren’t alone in dressing up this year. Jughead himself, Cole Sprouse, also came to Morgan’s baby shower dressed as the Man with the Yellow Hat from the Curious George novels. His special guest, a stuffed monkey representing the eponymous George, stuck to his arm. The bash was a small affair due to the strict guidelines the cast must follow in order to stay healthy. No one is allowed to visit their respective families at home and must remain in Vancouver. Thankfully, since everyone on set is so close, finding time to hang out hasn’t been hard at all.
So far, we know that the Riverdale cast is adding one new member. Insatiable star Erinn Westbrook will be joining the show to play Tabitha Tate, the granddaughter of diner owner Pop Tate. On the sadder side, Skeet Ulrich who plays Jughead’s father and town sheriff, F.P. Jones won’t be returning to Riverdale in order to explore new acting opportunities.
With all of these changes going on it’s safe to say that Riverdale is going to have an incredibly exciting fifth season. Not only are the characters moving on to their adult lives, but they must also continue to contend with the neverending drama of Riverdale. Who’s ‘seven year glow-up’ are you most excited to see? And how do you plan to bide your time until the release of season five?
