We’re officially halfway through season 5 of The Real Housewives of Potomac, and if you haven’t been watching let me catch you up on what you may have missed. If you aren’t watching Potomac, don’t sleep on it! !! I for one haven’t always kept up with Potomac religiously like I do other franchises, but this season has been nothing short of phenomenal reality television.
Also known as #RHOP, Potomac stars Karen Huger, Gizelle Bryant. Monique Samuels, Robyn Dixon, Ashley Darby, Candiace Dillard and the newest housewife Wendy Osefo. When Wendy came into this group, all the girls were mostly cordial and I think it’s safe to say, she had no idea what she was getting herself into…..
Let’s catch up on some of the ladies’ storylines thus far. This season, the legend, OG and face of Potomac, Karen Huger, immediately opened up about the challenges she was facing in her marriage. As Karen enters this new phase of life where her kids are out of the house, and her fragrance La’Dame is booming, she and husband Ray try to tackle these new changes by going to therapy.
Another OG and huge part of Potomac, Gizelle Bryant, has also taken us into her personal life this season. She has shared the struggles of trying to get back together with her children’s father, Jamal, who cheated on her 12 years ago. While Gizelle is hopeful and optimistic about reconciling with Jamal, her father and three daughters have made it clear that they don’t want to see Gizelle hurt again.
New mom and longtime housewife Ashley Darby, has also had many life changes this season. She is a new mom to her baby boy Dean and Ashley has been trying to adapt to motherhood while also dealing with her husband Michael’s possible “infidelity”. Ashley has been arguably the most open this season as she shared with viewers that she and Michael have had threesomes before and do have some type of “open marriage”. To viewers, it seems like Ashley and Michael’s marriage is more like an agreement. However, the couple just announced in real time they’re expecting their second child together. Congrats to them!
While it’s been fun and interesting to watch our favorite Potomac ladies open up about their lives, what has really made this season one for the books is this huge feud between Monique and Candiace, and girl, it escalated quickly. Monique and Candiace started off the season with some tension when Candiace invited an old friend and former housewife Charisse around that apparently spread untrue rumors about Monique’s family. That was just the beginning of the biggest housewife fight that was yet to come.
The feud only kept brewing from the first episode. And while many of the ladies made attempts to get these two ladies to become friends again, nothing was stopping them from going at it. In episode 9, a long awaited physical altercation went down between the two. Candiace has been asking Monique to “drag her” since last season, and she finally got what she asked for. Candiace provoked and antagonized Monique so much that Monique snapped, pulling her hair and physically attacking her. However, I want to make it clear that violence is NOT okay and you should never put your hands on someone. Monique was wrong.
This fight will most definitely go down in Housewife history. Candiace threw a glass at Monique’s mouth and Monique was grabbing Candiace’s hair and would not let go until the entire crew of producers and security had to break up the fight. It was insane to watch. In the most recent episode of Potomac, Monique tried to explain her side of the story to the ladies and ask for forgiveness, while Candice went to her therapist for some much needed healing. After this fight it’s clear the ladies are divided as we enter the second half of the season. While Karen and Ashley were able to hear Monique out and forgive her; Gizelle, Robyn and Wendy took Candiace’s side and have made it crystal clear they will not tolerate Monique’s behavior. Now that the ladies are divided, who knows what else will come in the second half of the season. I can’t wait to watch the rest of this season! I guarantee it will be nothing short of amazing.
