Star Wars has released many films, and three complete trilogies over nearly 50 years. Here are the top five critically rated Star Wars films to date!

5. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

Set just before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, Rogue One displays the story of hope the rebellion came into possession of the plans for destroying the Death Star. Following the actions of Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), the two are accompanied by several other friends or allies to carry out the mission of obtaining plans to help the Rebellion destroy the Death Star. It all comes together and delivers an interesting film with great writing and thrilling action scenes. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story brought in a cumulative score of 227 from critics.

4. Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)

Next on the list is a film that was a mixed bag of opinions when it was released, but well received by critics, and that is Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Following the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, this film continues the story of Rey (Daisy Ridley), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), and several others. Rey attempts to convince Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), to come out of hiding and to train her. While this is happening, the rest of the Rebellion is desperately trying to escape the First Order in a space pursuit. It all comes together with an action packed conclusion in the end, and with a cumulative score of 244, it ranks number four on the list.

3. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

The film that started the sequel trilogy for Star Wars is next up, and that is Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This film opened for the newest trilogy for Star Wars, starring Daisy Ridley as the main protagonist Rey, and others such as John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, and more. It also featured Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher returning as Han Solo and Princess Leia respectively. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is complete with an interesting story, great characters, and plenty of action with a 251 cumulative score.

2. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

In at the number two spot is a widely loved fan favorite in the Star Wars universe, and that is the second film Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. From the opening fight scene on the frozen planet Hoth, to the swamps of the Dagobah System where we meet Master Yoda for the first time, this film is packed with a lot to love, and delivers a great narrative in the middle of an iconic trilogy of films. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is a staple when talking about Star Wars, and it scored a cumulative score of 264 from critics.

1.Star Wars: A New Hope (1977)

Coming in as the highest rated Star Wars film is the one that started it all, and that is Star Wars: A New Hope. Being the very beginning for not only George Lucas and Steven Speilberg, but the cast and crew who all helped put this film together, Star Wars: A New Hope offers a lot for fans, and new viewers of the franchise. Despite it being an older film, and the effects seeming to reflect something older, it is an absolute classic that opened the door to the sci-fi genre, and film as we know it. Star Wars: A New Hope delivers an action packed and exciting cinematic experience that started an entire franchise that is more relevant than ever even nearly 50 years later, it received a cumulative score of 269 from critics.
