Like many television channels, Nickelodeon shows often have Christmas specials that put their characters in quirky situations. Taking a moment to not only appreciate the holiday but also give viewers something to come back to every year. Here are 8 Nickelodeon Christmas specials to rewatch this year.
“Christmas Who?” Spongebob Squarepants
Spongebob Squarepants is one of the longest-running Nickelodeon shows, so it is only right to include the episode where Christmas was first brought to Bikini Bottom. After learning about Christmas from Sandy, Spongebob unites the town to celebrate and wait for Santa. Squidward is a Scrooge throughout the entire episode, but after Santa fails to arrive, he steps in to give the people of Bikini Bottom presents from his home.
“Merry Christmas Drake and Josh” Drake and Josh
While this is not an episode in the series, but rather an epilogue film, it still has a special place in Nickelodeon fans’ hearts. The film follows Drake (Drake Bell) and Josh (Josh Peck) as they attempt to fulfill a promise Drake made to a little girl to escape having to go to jail. The promise was to give Mary Alice (Bailee Madison) and her foster family the best Christmas ever, and while it seems at first they are only doing this because they have to Drake and Josh learn the true meaning of Christmas as they grow close to the family they’re helping.
“A Fairly Odd Christmas” Fairly Odd Parents
Another iconic Nickelodeon Christmas movie is the live-action Fairly Odd Parents. After Timmy Turner (Drake Bell) grants everyone’s wishes they begin getting removed from the nice list as a result Timmy is escorted to the North Pole to meet with Santa. Unfortunately, after an accident, Santa becomes unable to perform his duties, and Timmy must step in. However, this proves difficult when it’s revealed Timmy Turner is on the naughty list. The movie follows as he journeys to the elf in charge of the naughty list so he can save Christmas.
“iChristmas” iCarly
In a parody of A Wonderful Life, Carly (Miranda Cosgrove) is transported to an alternate universe after making a wish that Spencer (Jerry Trainor) was born normal. In this universe, all of Spencer’s quirks are gone, and Carly’s friends are no longer in her life like before. She struggles to come to terms with the fact this could be a possibility if Spencer wasn’t who he was. In true Christmas fashion, this episode of iCarly shows how important it is to accept and love your family for who they are.
“Big Time Christmas” Big Time Rush
This episode features the boys of Big Time Rush attempting to make it back to Minnesota for the Holidays, but unfortunately, they aren’t allowed to leave until they can finish a last-minute Christmas EP. There are also cameos from stars like Snoop Dog and fellow Nickelodeon star Miranda Cosgrove. The episode is stacked musically, and while at first, they think it’s a menial task they find joy in creating music with each other and belief in Christmas miracles.
“A Christmas Tori” Victorious
One of the great parts of Victorious is the friendships throughout the show, and this episode truly highlights them all. After being challenged by Sikowitz (Eric Lange ) to do Secret Santa, the characters must come up with unique ideas for the person they were given, and unique they were. From Andre (Leon Thomas III) solving a long-running issue for Beck (Avan Jogia). To a final performance by Tori (Victoria Justice), Cat (Ariana Grande), and Jade (Elizabeth Gillies) to prove to Andre’s teacher he deserves a higher grade, this episode shows that not all Christmas gifts have to be expensive or flashy.
“Winter Thunderland” The Thundermans
In a parody of A Christmas Carol, Max Thunderman (Jack Griffo) is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future after deciding to get his sister Nora (Addison Riecke) the worst present ever for Secret Santa. First Christmas Past shows Max that every ‘bad gift’ he has given has always turned out good, and he has never actually ruined the holiday, but all Max learns is that he should give Nora no present at all. The next ghost shows Max the results of his idea where he effectively ruins her Christmas, but after seeing this he decides he should ruin everyone’s holiday instead. The Ghost of Christmas Future shows him how his decision turned his entire family evil, except for Nora, and it is then he realizes that this wouldn’t be a good idea, and he learns to appreciate the holiday.
Nickelodeon Ho Ho Holiday Special
It wouldn’t be a Nickelodeon Christmas without a cross-over special. In 2015 the channel invited all of their current stars to an epic Christmas party, but it was soon revealed it was a trap by a mysterious stranger. The special included SNL-like sketches that involved other stars such as Jace Norman, Owen Patrick Joyner, and Tony Cavelero. It was fun to see the stars together and out of character celebrating the holiday.
All of these specials and more can be streamed on Paramount+!
