AFTERBUZZ TV – AfterBuzz TV’s Spotlight On edition, is a long form interview series featuring actors discussing their roles and shows as well as their thoughts, passions and journeys. In this episode host Chae Jones interview Mickaëlle X. Bizet.
ABOUT MICKAELLE X. BIZET:
Stunning and talented French-American actress Mickaëlle X. Bizet (Mee-kah-elle X. Beeh-zay) is
the newest breakout star on ABC’s critically-acclaimed, award-winning anthology series
“American Crime.” X. Bizet plays the role of “Gabrielle Durand,” a woman who comes to the U.S.
to work as a nanny to the child of “Clair Coates” (Lilli Taylor) and “Nicholas Coates” (Timothy
Hutton) and who finds herself in a heart wrenching situation. X. Bizet’s powerful performance of
Gabrielle is sure to garner her recognition and buzz this award season. Also starring Felicity
Huffman and Regina King, the thrilling drama series created and executive-produced by
Academy Award winner John Ridley (12 YEARS A SLAVE) and Michael McDonald, examines
“preconceptions on faith, family, gender, race, class and other aspects of our social experience
through an approach and perspectives historically underserved in media.” Set in North Carolina,
the highly anticipated third season deals with burning issues such as sex-trafficking, forced labor,
immigration, modern day slavery, reproductive rights and women’s healthcare, and xenophobia. It
also focuses heavily on the hidden costs of the American lifestyle and how they covertly affect the
invisible, the innocent, and the ignored. Season 3 premieres on Sunday, March 12th at 10/9c on
ABC.
Fluent in French, Créole, and Spanish, X. Bizet is a multifaceted actress who can easily portray a
Black Urban Mary Poppins or the most demonic version of Cruella De Vil. She is best known for
her memorable yet disturbing role as fetal abductor “Veronica Deramous” in the acclaimed TV
One series “Will to Live.” She was also nominated for ‘Best Lead Actress’ at the Atlanta
Independent Film Festival for her work in the short film ROUBADO by Erica Watson and also
starred in the short film KICKSTART THEFT by the late Fred Goodich (FEAR NO EVIL) and
Academy Award Winner Vilmos Zsigmond (CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND).
Born on the French-Caribbean island of Martinique, and raised in Paris, X. Bizet always knew she
was born to become a successful actress. After two years at l’Université Paris-Sorbonne, X. Bizet
left her entire life in France behind and moved alone to Boston to become an au pair, with the
hopes of pursuing her American Dream in the back of her mind. Instead of returning to Paris after
a year, she decided to stay in the States and attended Quincy Community College, then UMass
Boston graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Secondary Education and the recognition
of Student Teacher of The Year. After teaching in Massachusetts for a few years, her Hollywood
dream kept whispering in her soul so X. Bizet moved to Los Angeles in 2009 and began to secure
consistent acting work while also working as a teacher in different LA area schools until July
2016, just a few months shy of being added to the cast of American Crime. In the past year, she
has been working closely with a young autistic woman who has opened her eyes and heart to a
whole new world. This led to spark her interest in autism awareness and hopes to help spread
awareness and raise funds for autism research. X. Bizet meditates and visualizes her way
through life, and health, soulful spirituality, and fitness are a vital part of her wellbeing. She aims
to one day live solely on a raw plant-based, whole-foods nutrition lifestyle and stays fit by
practicing Bikram Yoga and biking.
