Jean Webster’s original novel Daddy Long Legs has inspired many creative works, such as the 1955 film adaptation with Fred Astaire, animated shorts and even a sequel, but nothing captures the heart of the story quite so well as the musical.
With music & lyrics by Paul Gordon (Jane Eyre, Emma) and book by John Caird (Les Misérables, Jane Eyre), we are transported back to 1908 to the dreary life of Jerusha Abbott, just before her world turns upside down. The show is so intimate, with only Jerusha and Jervis onstage, and one cannot help but connect with these two characters as they lay their hearts out for all to see.
Because the rights to the show have just become available, this will be the first production of Daddy Long Legs in Los Angeles in several years. It is a new show to many, but one whose message will resonate with all. In a time when it is easy to insulate oneself with people who share the same opinions and life experiences, Daddy Long Legs shows us the value of going out of your comfort zone and the impact generosity can have on another person’s life.
