Based on the 2015 novel, Luckiest girl alive follows Ani Fanell (Kunis) a woman living the perfect life in New York until a true crime documentary forces her to relive dark moments from her teenage years.

Barone plays Dean, a motivational speaker with a dark past and a former classmate of Ani’s.

“Getting the part was surreal and was a dream come true. it was the best time of my life filming this movie, and I’m thankful to be a part of this story that Jessica Knoll, the writer, wrote.” Said Barone.

The actor’s rise to stardom wasn’t easy, and he had to work hard for his dream to become a reality. Barone was born with Fibular Hemimelia, a rare condition where he was born without the fibula bone in one of his legs and three fingers on both hands. But Barone says he did not let that stop him from pursuing his passions.

“Because of my condition growing up, my hands have always been strong and healthy, but because of the discrepancy and length of my leg, when I was a kid, I had to have about 43 surgeries between the ages of seven and seventeen to get to where I am today.” Said Barone. “Thanks to that pain I felt as a kid, and the insecurity, I think it led me to this path in feeling confident in myself and chasing this crazy acting industry.”

Luckiest Girl Alive isn’t the only film Barone has under his belt. Among many other projects, next year he will be starring opposite Regina King in the movie Shirly which follows Shirly Chisholm, the first black congresswoman.

The sky is the limit for Barone as he continues to hope that more roles open for people with disabilities.

“I’m just happy to be me and not hide my hands, and hopefully, more work comes where other people who are different find that courage to keep chasing their dreams, and hopefully, diversity keeps booming baby.”

Luckiest Girl Alive is currently streaming on Netflix.
