‘Longlegs’: Everything We Know About the New Film!

‘Longlegs’, the new horror film starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage, premieres on July 12th! Here’s everything we know in preparation for the film!

Horror buffs are having a great July with the back-to-back releases of MaXXXine and now Longlegs! With only a few days until its theatrical release on July 12th, here is everything you should know before heading to the theaters!

Plot

Maika Monroe stars as Lee Harker, an FBI agent in pursuit of a serial killer, who uncovers a series of occult clues that she must solve to end his terrifying killing spree. As she hones in on the elusive killer, she discovers a personal link to these killings and must act quickly to prevent another family murder.

Neon has released three trailers for Longlegs, all of which further add to the mystery behind this serial killer. In addition to the trailers, Neon has also released cryptic letters and messages on social media for fans to decipher in preparation for this film!

Longlegs is a Neon horror thriller directed by Osgood Perkins! You may know his previous works The Blackcoat’s Daughter, The Girl in the Photographs, or I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House! You may also know him as Dorky David in Legally Blonde!

Longlegs has a studded lineup with stars such as Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, and Nicolas Cage!

Leading actress Maika Monroe was spooked upon first laying eyes upon Nicolas Cage dressed up as Longlegs. So much so that Neon reported her heart rate spiked to 170 beats per minute. For those unaware, the average resting heart rate is between 60 and 100 beats per minute! If the actress herself was freaked when seeing the killer, boy are we ready to see how we react in theaters! 

Fans are stunned by the lack of information surrounding this film! Neon has done its best to create a cloud of mystery surrounding this film which has further fueled the hype, as fans eagerly anticipate the horror that awaits them.  

Critic Reviews 

@TheMoviePodcast and other movie review accounts on X share that Longlegs is the most terrifying film of the year! 

In Longlegs’ first week of early screenings, it received a 100% Rotten Tomatoes and a 5-star rating. Now the film is still sitting pretty at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes!

David Ehrlich from indieWire shared that Longlegs is “Terrifying in the abstract even as it grows increasingly absurd to watch, [it] slinks its way into that liminal space between childhood nightmares and grown-up practicalities.”

Fans lucky enough to have seen Longlegs early have done nothing but sing its praises.  Some even claim that Longlegs is the best serial killer horror movie since Silence of the Lambs.
