Live-Action Lilo & Stitch Trailer Brings the Nostalgia

Disney has done it again—another live-action remake is on the way, but this time, it might actually be kind of adorable. The first full-length trailer for Lilo & Stitch has dropped, giving fans their first real look at the reimagining of the 2002 animated classic.

While many Disney remakes have sparked mixed reactions, the Lilo & Stitch trailer is winning over some skeptics with its faithful yet fresh take on the beloved story. At the heart of it all is newcomer Maia Kealoha as Lilo, who effortlessly captures the character’s signature mix of wide-eyed wonder and mischievous charm.

Of course, Lilo & Stitch wouldn’t be complete without Stitch himself, and despite this being a “live-action” film, the little blue alien remains fully CGI. Fortunately, original voice actor Chris Sanders returns to reprise his role, ensuring Stitch sounds just as mischievous and lovable as ever. The trailer even leans into nostalgia with a snippet of “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride“, instantly transporting longtime fans back to the early 2000s.

The film boasts a solid supporting cast, including Courtney B. Vance, Hannah Waddingham, Zach Galifianakis, Sydney Elizabeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, and Tia Carrere. Some of these stars will be portraying new characters, while others have been transformed into CGI aliens themselves, adding to the mix of old and new.

While Disney’s live-action remakes have often been criticized for their cash-grab nature, Lilo & Stitch seems to be striking a more lighthearted and heartfelt tone. Given the rocky reception of other upcoming remakes—Snow White, we’re looking at you—this tropical adventure might just be the refreshing change of pace audiences need.

Fans won’t have to wait too long to see if the magic is still there as the movie premieres on May 23, 2025. Until then, the trailer is enough to make us want to embrace our inner Lilo, grab a plush Stitch, and dream of Hawaiian beaches.
