Imagine sleeping in your bed after a long day of work thinking you would awake to see another day. Instead, your life is taken from you because of the lack of competence from the Louisville police station. Breonna Taylor was a Black woman who was sleeping with her boyfriend at home until three officers busted down her door and ended her life with 32 shots.
Justice for Breonna Taylor is something many people have been preaching and fighting for. Three Louisville police officers murdered Taylor in her own apartment while she and her boyfriend were asleep. The officers responsible for her death are Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove. Even though one of the officers received a charge of wanton endangerment, that still isn’t the justice Taylor and her loved ones deserve. None of the officers involved are being charged for the wrongful death of Taylor, and for that, the fight continues for her and all the other Black people around the world who have endured racism and police brutality.
The Kentucky Attorney General, Daniel Cameron said he had to put his emotions to the side in order to appropriately analyze the murder.
“My job, as the special prosecutor in this case, was to put emotions aside and investigate the facts to determine if criminal violations of state law resulted in the loss of Ms. Taylor’s life,” he said.
LeBron James has been very vocal about his stance on many social justice issues and uses his huge platform to do so. After the verdict made news, James said he, like many others, was devastated after discovering only one officer involved in the crime was being charged.
Many people have been using Taylor’s death as memes, jokes, and even making a profit from her name. The conversation about Black women receiving more respect has resurfaced and James weighed in on the conversation too.
James then made a shoutout to all the Black women in his life.
