HIMYM fans, we request the highest of fives! Our How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Father, is finally coming! It’s been 7 years since the controversial finale aired, and fans have been asking questions ever since. The show ran for nine seasons, from 2005 to 2014. It starred Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan. While we don’t know if the beloved cast will make any cameos, here’s what we know about How I Met Your Father.
How I Met Your Father will follow Sophie (Hilary Duff) in the future as she tells her son how she met his father. The main action of the show will take place in 2021, as Sophie and her friends are trying to figure out “who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.”
The show was in development in 2014, and a pilot was filmed starring Greta Gerwig. But it didn’t get picked up until now. Hulu has ordered 10 episodes starring the iconic Hilary Duff, who is also a producer. Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who have worked on This Is Us and Love, Victor will oversee How I Met Your Father. The OG HIMYM creators, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, will be executive producing.

Duff, who is starring, announced her involvement on her Instagram! While we don’t know if the original cast will be involved in any way, we’re hoping some loved gags and running jokes will make an appearance, like Barney’s love of suits! We certainly think Hilary would look awesome all suited up.
A Better Take On Dating Apps
In the original series, there’s an episode where Ted gets made fun of for meeting someone online. Dating apps have risen in popularity since then, and we’re hoping for a more nuanced take on them. The show description mentions “how to fall in love in the age of dating apps,” so we’re excited to see what the show’s take on them will be.

When the last season and finale of HIMYM aired, fans were shocked that Robin and Barney didn’t end up together. 7 years later, fans are still lamenting their relationship on Twitter.
