It has been over two years since the last season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel came out and it can be hard to remember everything that happened. Need a refresher on where the series left off; we’ve got you covered!
Season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has been long awaited since the third season premiered in December 2019. After more than two years of patiently waiting, Maisel fans are ecstatic for the 4th season to bring new and exciting adventures of Miriam (Midge) to their screens. Here’s a recap of important storylines to remember for the new season premiere!
The 8-episode third season begins in 1959 New York with Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) at a USO show performing stand up. The comedian and her manager Susie (Alex Borstein) are preparing to go on tour where Midge will be opening for famous singer Shy Baldwin (Leroy McClain), which will be a big step in both Midge’s and Susie’s careers.
Meanwhile, Midge’s parents Abe and Rose (Tony Shalhoub and Marin Hinkle, respectively) are figuring out their new financial situation after Abe quit his job as a professor at Columbia University. Still unaccepting of their daughter’s profession as a comic, Midge’s parents are also disappointed in her romantic choice of dumping successful surgeon Benjamin (Zachary Levi).

Joel (Michael Zegen) spends the third season opening his new club, but realizes the venue he bought was not as perfect as it originally seemed. However, new character Mei (Stephanie Hsu) becomes Joel’s main source of help for opening his club, and the two begin to spark a romantic connection.
Midge and Joel make their divorce official, but the two maintain positive terms with each other, especially since Joel is in charge of the kids while Midge is away on tour. However, Midge is upset that Susie decides to bring on a new client: comedic legend Sophie Lennon (Jane Lynch).
While Midge and Susie prepare to leave for tour and arrive at their first stop in Las Vegas, Abe buries his attention into a new project with some younger beanik friends he just met, which keeps him busy from ruminating on his recent job loss. Despite this, Abe and Rose end up having to leave their expensive Manhattan apartment and do the last thing either of them would have liked to do: move into the loud and obnoxious Moishe and Shirley’s (Kevin Pollak and Caroline Aaron) house.

While Midge is enjoying her time in Las Vegas dominating the stage and relaxing in the hotel, Susie is creating new industry connections. But Susie’s schedule becomes busy when she must travel back and forth between New York to manage Sophie, and to the tour stop to manage Midge.
While on the next tour stop in Miami, Midge runs into comedian friend Lenny Bruce (Luke Kirby), and the two start to develop a romance. However, when Lenny invites Midge into his room, she instead says goodnight and leaves their unexpected romantic evening at that.
On the brighter side, Midge’s parents come to Miami where Midge is, but mainly to get away from Moishe and Shirley’s house. They decide that they’d rather face the embarrassment and disappointment of Midge being a woman in comedy, than stay with Joel’s crazy parents in Queens for one more night. At least they are sort of starting to adapt to Midge’s new lifestyle and career, right?

On tour Midge becomes close with Shy and the two performers develop a sweet friendship. Shy trusts Midge enough to confide in her that he is gay, which is not something he shares with the public. But it all goes downhill when Midge talks about Shy during her act on stage, and she makes one too many jokes implying his sexuality. Despite her act being full harmless jokes, in a way, Midge almost breached Shy’s personal, private information to his fan base. Because of this, Midge is uninvited from attending the remainder of the tour, so she and Susie are left in the dust, jobless.
