The Batman (2022)
The Batman starring Robert Pattinson, well known from the Twilight series, released March 4, 2022, made a massive impact on the current Batman universe, setting a whole chain of films and shows into effect. The Batman was a massive success, and while no real budget was confirmed, it was reported that it was somewhere near $100 million, pulling in roughly $770 million in the box office worldwide. This depiction of Batman has been a new take that fans have taken in and greatly appreciated, showing us the cruel and unforgiving streets of Gotham City without holding anything back.
The Batman has led to fans wanting more and more from this universe, and Warner Bros Pictures has responded by giving us just that. With several projects in effect or in the works, we start off with the release of the new series, The Penguin, starring Colin Farrel.
A race for power is running through Gotham.

The Penguin
The premiere of The Penguin on Max, was nothing short of a success bringing in roughly 5.3 million viewers for the first episode released on September 19. It reached its impressive viewer count within four days of the premiere’s release. While the series doesn’t seem to have any focus on Robert Pattinson’s Batman, it is directly connected to the events of The Batman, taking place only days after the end of the film, and the events of The Riddler’s, played by Paul Dano, attack on Gotham. The series will be focused on the development of the character of Oswald Cobb, and how will transition from a nobody, into the crime boss villain, the Penguin.

The Batman – Part II
With the success of The Batman, and now the initial success of The Penguin series, fans have received recent confirmation of a sequel to The Batman. Reprising the role of Batman, will be Robert Pattinson, as well as Andy Serkis, from Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and the Planet of the Apes franchise, as Bruce Wayne’s beloved butler and caretaker Alfred. In addition we also have confirmation that Jeffery Wright will return and James Gordon. From what we know, and the recent release of the cover for The Batman – Part II, it may not be a big stretch to assume it will be set in winter. This raises the idea of the return of the infamous Mr. Freeze. However, fans will have to wait until the release of the film, currently set for October 2, 2026.
Matt Reeves talks about the Arkham Asylum & GCPD series:
“The things that we’re talking about [now] are evolved versions of those things. It’s not like that just didn’t work. It was like, we need to evolve this. I would describe it less as something that didn’t work out and more… pic.twitter.com/uJQJRVs3AL

Arkham Asylum/Gotham City Police Department (Series)
In addition to The Batman films, and The Penguin, there were other projects in the works over the years that would have continued to expand on Matt Reeves Batman universe. This being a series focused on the dark depths of the infamous Arkham Asylum, and how it may have affected some of the characters that Batman has faced, or will have to in the near future.
Another is the potential Gotham City Police Department series fans may be receiving in the years moving forward. What fans have been given on this possible series is that it would focus on the Gotham Police force, as well as diving deeper into Jeffery Wright’s James Gordon in this universe.
Both of these potential series having issues or troubles with releases and or being made in the first place have been addressed as “not evolved”. Matt Reeves claims to be working on these projects, but is giving both time to flesh them out so that they will deliver on what they should be for fans.

With fans awaiting more episodes of The Penguin, and more information on The Batman Part II, it also leaves many of us wondering what else we may have in store from this Batman and Gotham universe. Maybe we will see Zoë Kravitz reprise her role as Catwoman with her own series as well, but right now we’ll just have to wait and see what may come in the near future.
