The Original Film
This is a direct sequel to The Exorcist film, so it’s best to watch the first film before watching The Exorcist: Believer. The first film follows a young girl named Regan (Linda Blair) who has been displaying strange behaviors that grow more intense prompting her mother Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn) to look for help from a Jesuit priest at a nearby university. An exorcism is performed by two priests, in hopes they can rid the demon from Regan’s body. The film was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards that year even though there was pushback on what the appropriate MPAA film rating should have been. The Exorcist will be shown once again in theaters on October 1st and October 4th for the 50th anniversary this year.
