2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Details!

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024 inductees were announced during an episode of ‘American Idol’ on April 21, and we couldn’t be more excited for this year’s ceremony! This is everything we currently know about the 2024 induction!

The Inductees

The inductees for this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony are Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, and A Tribe Called Quest. Blige, a nine-time Grammy Award winner, is a tremendously talented singer-songwriter, having achieved six Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and being ranked as the 25th greatest singer of all time, according to Rolling Stone. Cher rose to fame as one half of folk rock duo Sonny & Cher, before becoming an iconic, best-selling artist in her own right. Oh yeah, and she’s had a Billboard No. 1 hit in every decade since the 1960s. Dave Matthews Band continues to be a hot ticket as an eclectic jam band to this very day, and their founder, Dave Matthews, has already provided the induction speech for two previous Rock Hall artists, Traffic and Willie Nelson.

Foreigner, a rock juggernaut of the ‘70s and ‘80s, is best remembered for classics like “Cold as Ice,” “Feels Like the First Time,” and “Juke Box Hero,” while Peter Frampton’s Frampton Comes Alive! album helped establish a career that still permeates classic rock radio to this day.

Kool & the Gang dominated the disco, R&B, funk, and soul scene from the 1970s-’80s, allowing them to sell 70 million albums worldwide and earn a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I mean, come on, when “Celebration” comes on, you’re bound to dance. Ozzy Osbourne is set to become one of just 27 artists to have been elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame more than once, thanks to hard rock standards like “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley” and his time as a heavy metal pioneer in Black Sabbath. Last but not least, A Tribe Called Quest changed the hip-hop genre forever, pushing more towards an alternative lens and favoring jazz samples to create memorable tracks.

Special Award Winners

In addition to the members of the Class of 2024, there are several awards given out to non-inductees. The late Jimmy Buffett, known for his string of tropical hits, as well as hard rock trailblazer group MC5, pop legend Dionne Warwick, and Motown label extraordinaire Norman Whitfield were honored with the Musical Excellence Award.

As for the Musical Influence Award, Alexis Korner, John Mayall, and Big Mama Thornton, all blues legends in their own right, were the recipients. Screenwriter and TV producer Suzanne de Passe earned the Ahmet Ertegun Award, given to non-performing professionals who’ve helped build up music culture.

The Voting Process

The fans usually kick off the voting process for each class’ ballot, and this year was no different. The annual fan vote began soon after the nominees were announced and was conducted over an online poll that ended on April 15. The fan vote is then combined with a select group of industry professionals, like historians, journalists, and previous inductees, who then decide who the official inductees are.

Artists are eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame if they had a significant impact on the music community and pop culture, and released their “first commercial recording” at least 25 years before their nomination.

When and where does it take place?

The 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on Oct. 19 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland. You can catch the full ceremony live by watching on Disney+. Later airings will be shown on ABC and Hulu.
