The iconic singing competition returns for its 23rd season on Sunday, March 9, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Hosted once again by Ryan Seacrest, the new season will feature longtime judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, along with Carrie Underwood, who is stepping in for Katy Perry after her departure from the show.
Carrie Underwood, who won American Idol Season 4, is excited to return to the show that launched her career. “20 years ago I auditioned for the judges of @americanidol, and today I am now one of those judges searching for someone who wants to BE AN IDOL!” she shared on social media.
The season kicks off with three audition episodes before the competition heats up in Hollywood. Adding to the excitement, Grammy-nominated artist Jelly Roll will serve as the first-ever artist in residence, mentoring contestants on their musical journey.
