Elmo’s Trending Moments On TikTok, In Honor Of His Birthday!

It’s Elmo’s birthday! To celebrate, we are taking a look at his trending sounds on TikTok right now and sharing where these trends began.

February 3rd is Elmo’s birthday! Our beloved puppet has had our hearts since 1980, but thanks to TikTok, Elmo is trending once again. We are taking a look at the origin of these trending audios and sharing our favorite viral TikToks.

Balsamic Vinegar Trend

In 2015, Elmo guest-starred on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote his new cookbook. In the segment, chef Elmo shows Jimmy Fallon, Jason Schwartzman, and Questlove how to make a few recipes.

Though this aired quite a few years ago, Elmo’s pronunciation of the word ‘balsamic vinegar’ started trending on TikTok. People have been making videos lip-synching to the audio with their own twists. Here are a few of our favorites that went viral:

Oatmeal Container, Wooden Bowl, and a Paper Towel Roll Trend

In 2020, Hailee Steinfeld performed on Sesame Street. She sang “I Wonder, What If, Let’s Try!” Towards the end of the song, Elmo and his friends join in to sing as they try new ideas.

Once again, the way that Elmo pronounces his words caught the attention of TikTok. TikToker Chelsey Vogt posted a short clip of the song, and it quickly gained traction. As of our last check, this video now has 6.2 million views.

Hello Rocco Trend

Elmo’s feud with Rocco has been going on since 2004. He just wanted the oatmeal raisin cookie, but his friend Zoe stopped him out of concern for her pet rock Rocco. This is where Elmo reaches his breaking point.

Elmo and Rocco are still not on great terms. But that doesn’t stop Zoe from making sure that Elmo says hi to Rocco.
