After the gruesome murder of their father, Randell, Nina Locke and her three children — Bode,Tyler, and Kinsey — leave Seattle and head to the ancestral Locke family home on the coast of Massachusetts.
Tyler and Kinsey find their way and find friends at a new school while Bode explores the property and finds a special well with an “Echo” that talks back.
We see each member of the Locke family reliving their father’s murder through flashbacks that reveal the killer, Sam, but not his motives.
Bode returns to the well where the “Echo” tells him that the house is full of keys that have different magical properties. Bode will find the “Anywhere Key” and use it to transport himself from his sister’s bedroom to the town’s ice cream shop. He’ll later find another key that takes his mother into another dimension full of mirrors and self-reflection.
In order to save his mom Bode will give up the “Anywhere Key” to the “Echo” who uses it to leave the bottom of the well and meet up with Sam in prison.

Nina has coffee with Detective Daniel while all hell breaks loose in and around the Locke House. Dodge returns with the Crown of Shadows and a gaggle of demon shadows whose weakness is light. Kinsey and the Matheson Bunch — Gabe, Scot, Bode, Tyler, and Eden — go to the caves and toss Dodge’s body into the blue door abyss where Dodge, et al. do their best Hans Gruber/slo-mo impression. Scot won’t double date with Kinsey slash Gabe which is fine with her and him/Gabe. And since Gabe=Dodge=Lucas=Ellie= who knows who else,, Kinsey is Matheson’s new Bachelorette. (Who will you give the rose to, Kins?) Nina decides the family should go back to Seattle but the others want to stay. They toss dad’s ashes over a cliff and pronounce, “You’re home now, Rendell. We’re home.”
