Dancing with the Stars is back with Disney Week! This time, we have both Heroes and Villains night. Here are our Superlatives for this week’s dances, costumes, and more!
**Elimination Spoilers**
Dancing with the Stars’s iconic “Disney Night” is back and better than ever! This season “Disney Night”, or rather, “Disney Week” will feature two episodes back to back, first focusing on Disney heroes and the second focusing on Disney villains. The “Heroes” episode featured classic characters such as Cinderella, Snow White, the Genie, and more. Cheryl Burke and Cody Rigsby, who performed separately via Zoom last week, were back in the ballroom and wowed us with their Goofy Movie inspired performance. Judge Derek Hough was also back in the ballroom after a COVID-19 exposure. The night was nothing short of magical and a true Disney production.
There was no elimination in this first episode, so here’s hoping some Disney magic will save our favorite couples on Villain’s night! Without further ado, here are our superlatives for this first episode of “Disney Week: Heroes Night”.
Most Disney-esque Performance: JoJo Siwa & Jenna Johnson
This dance made our dreams come true! Jojo Siwa and Jenna Johnson performed a Viennese Waltz to “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes” and it was a real life fairytale. The costumes were perfectly designed for these two, and the choreography flowed so elegantly to the music, it was truly straight out of Cinderella! This performance really captured the essence of Disney and was a great way to kick off the night.
Best Choreography: Olivia Jade & Val Chmerkovskiy
If there’s one thing you can count on DWTS, it’s these two having super intense choreography and nailing it! The pair danced a Samba to “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King”, complete with lion costumes and a whole lot of flair! This dance was one of the highlights of the night, as it really just hit the nail on the head. Olivia Jade has been killing it each week, and we can’t wait to see what she does for “Villain’s Night”! Does anyone else remember Val’s “Ursula” dance with Rumer Willis? Let’s see what he has up his sleeve for Olivia!
Most Surprising: Cody Rigsby & Cheryl Burke
They are back and better than ever! After spending the past two weeks away from the ballroom, Cody Rigsby and Cheryl Burke Jive-d their way back into our hearts with a performance to “Stand Out” from The Goofy Movie! This dance absolutely wins the award for best personality, along with most surprising. Cody has been one to watch for this season, but this dance really showed off his dedication and hard work. We loved seeing his personality shine through in this performance, he really gave it his all! So happy to see this pair back in the ballroom, and fingers crossed they make it far in the competition!
Most Improved: Jimmie Allen & Emma Slater
Emma said “I’ll Make a Man Out of You”, Jimmie! This Paso Doble was by far Jimmie Allen’s best dance of the season so far. Paso Dobles can be very hit or miss, especially when there is no skirt to be whipping around, but this duo absolutely killed it this week! The choreography was perfectly timed to the music, it was an all-around great performance. We love to see Jimmie improving every week, and comparing this to his first dance of the season, he’s already come a long way!
Best Costumes: The Miz & Witney Carson
This truly needs no explanation. I mean, we’ve never seen a better Genie costume in our lives! Not only did The Miz put on a bald cap and paint his body blue, but he nailed a Quickstep to “Friend Like Me”. The production value of this dance was truly something spectacular, and arguably one of the top dances of the night. It’s obvious that The Miz brings his A-Game every week, and we are so excited to see his next performance for “Villains Night”.
Most Fun to Watch: Mel C & Gleb Savchenko
Mary Poppins, is that you? Mel C and her partner Gleb Savchenko danced an incredible Jazz routine to “Step in Time” for “Disney Week: Heroes Night”. These characters felt like they were made just for these two, and the performance really took us right back to the film! This song is not as abundantly common as some others you may have seen on previous “Disney Nights”, so it is always an enjoyable performance to watch! Mel C is truly bringing her spice to the ballroom, but we can’t wait to see her take on a villain next!!
Best Dance of the Night: Melora Hardin & Artem Chigvintsev
Melora Hardin must be protected! This woman is the hidden star of this season that we didn’t see coming. The pair danced a Quickstep to “I Wan’na Be Like You” and it took home the highest score of the night. The choreography was fun and upbeat, nothing too unexpected, but perfectly synced with the music. The energy was there and truly just gave us one of the best “Disney Night” dances we’ve seen in a while! Melora is one of those stars who deserves all the high scores, as she’s one of the few this season who have no prior dancing experience. Can’t wait to see her acting for Villain’s night!
The performances for “Disney Week: Heroes Night” were memorable. From the costumes to the song choices, this season was one of the best we’ve seen in a few seasons. Now, who’s excited to see the villains come to life?
