Dancing with the Stars brought us, Britney, in all forms during the 3rd week of the season! Here are our Superlatives for this week’s dances, costumes, and more!
**Elimination Spoilers**
Dancing with the Stars took on a whole new theme this week as the cast danced to Britney all night long. Kicking the episode off with a “Circus”, the costumes, song choices, and backdrops really took the night to another level. The episode was surprisingly full of tangos, with 6 of the remaining 14 couples dancing a Tango to a Britney Spears classic. Judge Derek Hough was absent this week due to a possible COVID-19 exposure, along with Cheryl Burke and Cody Rigsby who performed separately via Zoom for the night. The two gave it their all, and fit right in with the rest of the cast, despite what the judges had to say.
Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to another couple this week, and Christine Chiu was the one to go. Christine was just starting to shine on the dancefloor, and despite being in the bottom two last week, her departure was a bit of a surprise.
Now, on to our favorite performances and other superlatives from this week’s Dancing with the Stars!
Best Britney Performance: Amanda Kloots and Alan Bersten
While Britney night was a sight to see, many of the dances didn’t encapsulate Britney as much as we had hoped. The costumes were hit or miss, the dances didn’t necessarily fit into each song that was performed, so this category was a must. Amanda Kloots and Alan Bersten opened the show with a spectacular “Circus” performance that was everything you could dream of. Their Cha Cha had the lights, the fireworks, the set, the choreography. This was by far the best overall performance for the Britney theme. I mean, Amanda was a Rockette and Broadway dancer, so we didn’t expect anything less!
Best Choreography: Olivia Jade and Val Chmerkovskiy
It appears that choreographing a Tango to a Britney song is harder than you might think, but Val and Olivia had no problems delivering this one! This couple keeps getting better and better, and their dance to “Hold It Against Me” absolutely had the strongest choreography of the night. The main issue with Britney night seemed to be matching the choreography to the song in an appealing way, but Olivia and Val knocked it out of the park!
Most Surprising: Matt James and Lindsay Arnold
Who would’ve thought the Bachelor could be this good at dancing? Matt James and his partner Lindsay Arnold really stepped it up in Week 3 as they danced a Tango to “Scream & Shout”. With all the Tangos this week it was hard to stand out, but we could really see the effort that went into this performance! Matt continues to improve each week and honestly surprise all of us, so we can’t wait to see what else Lindsay has in store for him!
Deserved Higher Score: Jimmie Allen and Emma Slater
It’s outrageous these two didn’t get higher scores!! Jimmie Allen and Emma Slater danced their hearts out in a Salsa to “Outrageous” and only received a 20 out of 30 for the performance. This dance was much better than last week’s performance and was full of energy. C’mon guys, give them higher scores! The same can be said for Cody and Cheryl who performed virtually, and although their dance was not as elaborate as some others this week, they deserved higher scores for their effort as well.
Best Costumes: Melanie C and Gleb Savchenko
Mel C in that iconic flight attendant outfit and Gleb in a cloud suit? What could be better?? The pair danced a Tango to “Toxic”, and while their dance was strong, it was the costumes that stole the show. 10/10 for recreating Britney’s looks!
Most Fun to Watch: Melora Hardin and Artem
Melora and Artem absolutely killed their dance this week, and we couldn’t be more impressed! The two danced a Cha Cha to “(You Drive Me) Crazy (The Stop Remix!)” and it was one of the most impressive dances of the night. Melora expressed in rehearsals how hard this show was and how hard she was working, and girl did it pay off! We know these two will go far in this competition and we can’t wait to see her bring her acting skills to the table in Disney Night!
Best Dance of the Night: The Miz and Whitney Carson
This was a tough choice, but the only competition to The Miz and Whitney this week was Melora and Artem. Both couples stole the show in our eyes, but ultimately Whitney’s choreography pushed them over the edge for the award of “Best Dance of the Night”. I suppose the show producers agree as they saved the best dance for the last dance! The pair danced a Salsa to “Oops!… I Did It Again” with some crazy lifts, amazing costumes, and overall just an entertaining performance to watch. This was by far the highlight of Britney Night and only showed us how hard of a worker The Miz is!
While this week wasn’t enough to turn die-hard Britney fans’ heads, the episode was enjoyable for sure. Next week is Disney Week, and we are dying to see who’s dancing to which song. Perhaps a remake of Meryl and Maks’ Jungle Book dance?
