D23 Expo Biggest Announcements Breakdown

Amazing things are coming from the Disney corporation such as park expansions, The Greatest Showman on Broadway, and Frozen 3! Here is a breakdown of what was announced at the latest D23 Expo!

Park Announcements

At Disney California Adventure, you may have noticed a big wall that captivated Avengers Campus. We have all wondered what lies behind that wall and we now have an answer! Announced at the D23 Expo, Disney California Adventure is getting a new attraction, Avengers Infinity Defense, which is designed to replicate Stark Technology which will allow guests to travel among worlds! The fun doesn’t stop there, as Disney California Adventure is receiving not one but two new attractions in Avengers Campus with a simulated flight in the works at Stark Flight Lab! This project is set to begin construction next year!

It doesn’t stop there as Disney’s California Adventure is getting revamped with even more new attractions! The very first Coco ride is coming to Disney California Adventure and we are beyond excited! Guests will join Miguel on a trip to the land of the dead with the latest Audio-Animatronic technology! 

Of course, it is not just California receiving some new updates! Parks around the world have plans to add attractions and experiences for all Disney-goers! There are a multitude of attractions heading to Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World in Florida! At D23, a new Villains Land was announced with two major attractions!

Heading on down the road at Disney’s Hollywood Studios we are finally seeing Monstropolis come to life! The first Monsters, Inc. land in any Disney park is set for construction beginning in 2025! While excited, many fans are also worried about where Disney plans to place this new land and fear for the beloved MuppetVision experience!

Over at Animal Kingdom, a new land, replacing Dinoland U.S.A., will feature new Indiana Jones and Encanto attractions and dining options! The beginning stages of construction will begin in 2025 with an opening date planned for 2027!

Broadway Announcements

Yes, The Greatest Showman is finally getting its long-awaited Broadway rendition that so many fans were longing for! Disney announced that The Greatest Showman is now in development for its screen-to-stage project! Like the movie, The Greatest Showman will tell the story of P.T. Barnum and his creation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus! Not many details were shared about its release, cast, or production schedule, so make sure to check this out at a later date!

Now this musical can surely “Go The Distance!” A stage adaptation of Disney’s Hercules is headed to London’s West End next year and fans are just ecstatic! D23 featured a sneak peek of the Hercules hit song, Zero To Hero and oh-boy were we happy with the casting!

Movie Announcements

Disney has been busy planning out the next couple of years! Whether or not you are an avid Disney fan, you have to be excited about these upcoming projects! We are getting to see some of our favorite characters back up on the big screen and we are here for it! Here’s a rundown of the movie updates and releases that were announced during the D23 Expo

Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps are back on the case in Zootopia 2, with a planned release date of November 26, 2025! The D23 exclusive clip showed Nick and Judy searching for Gary in Marsh Market! The Marsh is quite the change from urban Zootopia, including hippos getting tattoos, hippos riding waterslides, and seals eating algae! The bunny is back, and we can not wait for this release!

Both Frozen and Incredibles are getting a third addition to their beloved series! Frozen 3 is set to release in 2027 and Incredibles 3 is currently in production with no set release date! Only concept art was shared for both releases but fans are still so excited! It was even teased that there might be a Frozen 4 in the works!

Other major films are in the woodwork with Tron: Ares set to release on October 10, 2025! A Freaky Friday sequel titled Freakier Friday is announced to be released in 2025 and the Lilo & Stitch’s live-action remake is set for release in 2025, though Disney has not yet announced an exact date!
