Have you ever looked into deep woods and felt as if you were being watched? Well, what if you actually were? Specifically in the German Alps and in Teutonic myth and folklore, there is a male, troll-like creature that appears to people while they sleep and causes nightmares and sleep paralysis. This creature is referred to as the Alp. There are so many more folklore stories and beings that are rumored to live within those woods but the question remains, are these spirits friendly? In NEON’s upcoming thriller Cuckoo, we journey into these German Alps, and here is everything that may lie ahead!
The Plot
NEON’s Cuckoo follows Gretchen, a 17-year-old girl who moves into a resort in the German Alps to live with her dad and his new family. Though the scenery is stunning, something just seems off about this tranquil vacation paradise! As the days and nights continue, Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret!
The Cast
Cuckoo features the hottest new scream queen Hunter Schafer as Gretchen, alongside Marton Csokas (Luis), whom you may recognize from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or The Equalizer! Beast, Dan Stevens, from Beauty and the Beast (2017) joins the cast as Herr König! Other great names are added to this already amazing cast list with Mila Lieu as Alma, Jessica Henwick as Beth, and Greta Fernández as Trixie! With all of this talent, there is so much to look for in Cuckoo!

The Critics
Cuckoo holds a whopping 82% on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes! The film is also categorized as Generally Favorable with a 6.1 on Metacritic, and a 5.8 on IMDb! Associated Press’s Lindsey Bahr claimed that Cuckoo, “is undeniably fascinating, original and even occasionally fun, in a very twisted and deranged way in which laughter is your involuntary response to something horrifying.”
