CMT Awards 2025 Canceled Amid Paramount Global Merger

The 2025 Country Music Television Awards have been canceled following the merger of Paramount Global with David Ellison’s Skydance Media. This decision comes just two years after the ceremony moved to Austin.

The cancellation of the CMT‘s is part of a broader move by Paramount Global to halt several events scheduled for early 2025. Other affected events include the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), the Mexican edition of the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, and the MTV MIAWs, which honor Latin American music. However, the company’s Video Music Awards and Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards remain unaffected.

Paramount Global executive Bruce Gillmer announced the cancellation in a staff memo obtained by the Hollywood Reporter. In the memo, Gillmer stated that the company is using the merger as an opportunity to “reimagine and optimize [their] events slate going forward.”

“Our world-class events remain a key component of Paramount’s music offering as we continue to raise the bar in delivering iconic, unforgettable performances and moments that drive pop culture,” Gillmer said. “We have the best team in the business, and we are grateful for your hard work and dedication in bringing these events to life.”

The CMT Awards’ future remains uncertain as the company undergoes restructuring.
