As one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood you have yet to meet, the smoldering Chris Santos (THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE) has come full circle – starring in his second Steven Soderbergh film PERFECT – however this time it was Santos who brought the film to Soderbergh. Santos will star opposite Abbie Cornish, Martin Sensmeier and Maurice Compte in the thriller set to premiere in Austin, TX at SXSW in the “Visions” category on Sunday, March 11th. We would love to set up an interview with you and Chris to discuss his current projects and what it’s like working with one of the best-known producers and directors in the business.
Written and directed by the award-winning Eddie Alcazar, produced by Academy Award-winner Steven Soderbergh, and composed by Los Angeles based experimental multi-genre producer and rapper Flying Lotus, PERFECT tells the story of a young man with a violent past as he enters a mysterious clinic where the patients wildly Premiere Of ‘The Girlfriend Experience’ At The 2009 Tribeca Film Festivaltransform their bodies and minds using genetic engineering. The psychological thriller fully captivates its audience as it steers them along a thought-provoking journey while providing a luxurious treat for fans of science fiction. Santos, who had already been cast in the film, brought it to the attention of Soderbergh who then in turn fell in love with the project, jumping on board to produce.
Santos is best known for his breakout role in the drama feature film THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE (directed by Soderbergh) where he played the male lead opposite Sasha Grey. Santos was introduced to the film by its acclaimed writer David Levien (OCEAN’S THIRTEEN, “Billions”) who was his client as a personal trainer living in New York – in fact the character had so many similarities to Santos’s own life that Levien decided to introduce him to Soderbergh. Santos was cast for the role of “Chris” the very next day.
The film, which centers around a high-end escort (Grey) and her boyfriend (Santos), has since been turned into a Golden Globe-nominated drama series, currently airing on Starz. The role shot Santos into the spotlight and further solidified his taste for acting – his first film was at age 12 in Rob Weiss’s (AMERICAN PSYCHO, “Entourage”) feature film AMONGST FRIENDS shot in his hometown of Long Island. Since then Santos has been working hard to hone his craft, training with Hollywood’s premier acting coaches including Ivana Chubbuck, Lesly Kahn and Margie Haber, graduating top of class.
Santos additionally has the beautifully shot short film SOMEDAY starring opposite Dominican actress Katherine Castro, which just wrapped filming. The film follows two strangers (Santos and Castro) who meet on a 14-hr flight from Sydney to Los Angeles. Adam is a world-famous composer, but Melody doesn’t recognize her flight companion seated next to her. Along the way they pour their hearts out, forging a connection that is more beautiful, precisely because of its simple, fleeting nature.
Santos currently resides in Los Angeles. When he is not acting or writing, the fitness enthusiast enjoys Thai boxing and Brazilian jujitsu.
