There are tons of celebrities that come from long lines of fame. Here are eight that you might have forgot have infamous Hollywood legacies!
Hollywood is full of legacy, powerful household names and star-studded families.
Many well-known celebrities grew up watching their parents in the spotlight, on television and at various red carpet events, which then sparked an interest in the Entertainment industry. Some were even discouraged because of the heartbreak and uncertainty in Hollywood. However, it did not stop several of the A-Listers we know today.
Here are eight celebrities with famous parents:
Jamie Lee Curtis
Jamie Lee Curtis has starred in many blockbuster films such as Knives Out, Freaky Friday and of course the Halloween franchise. Jamie Lee isn’t the only notorious one to have a role in horror films. Her mom Janet Leigh is well-known for playing Marion Crane in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, landing her a Golden Globe in 1961. Not only was Jamie Lee’s mother famous, but her father was an American actor as well. He starred in many films including top films like Some Like It Hot alongside Marilyn Monroe and Spartacus alongside Kirk Douglas.
Kate Hudson
Kate Hudson was a natural-born performer, singing and dancing at a young age. By the time she was in high school, she started exploring the world of acting. It’s no wonder she wanted to get her feet wet growing up with comedic mom Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel. The two are notable American actors and a powerhouse duo in the 1987 classic romantic comedy, Overboard. Hawn’s advice to Hudson is: “I believe that life is about doing. It’s about changing. It’s about transitioning. I can’t imagine being a human being, not being able to grow.”
Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston fell in love with the craft of acting after attending Rudolf Steiner School’s drama club at the age of eleven. However, America’s sweetheart and our favorite girl next door was originally discouraged by her father to pursue acting due to the industry’s unpredictability. Her father, John Aniston, has been on the daytime drama series Days of our Lives since 1985, playing Victor Kiriakis. He will even be the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Looking back John is proud of his daughter for following in his footsteps saying, “Jennifer is a natural talent.”
Zoë Kravitz
Zoë Kravitz is a force to be reckoned with for action-packed roles in Batman, X-Men and Spider-Man. Her parents are also strong names in Hollywood. Her mom, Lisa Bonet, was widely known throughout the 80s and 90s for her role as Denise Huxtable in The Cosby Show. She also appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine while being two months pregnant with Zoë. Her father, Lenny Kravitz, is a four-time Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter. He is known best for the album “Dig In,” and songs “Again,” “Fly Away” and “Are You Gonna Go My Way.” Additionally, he has a role in the Hunger Games as Chinna but admitted he had never heard of the books or how big the series was.
Lily Collins
There was always something in the air, or maybe in the stars, for Lily Collins to be a part of the Entertainment industry. She has appeared in many successful critically-acclaimed films and is currently starring in the Netflix dramedy Emily in Paris. Similar to Kravitz, Lily grew up with a musical father, Phil Collins, an English drummer and member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame originally started his career acting and modeling. It wasn’t until the 70s that his music career began. He is most recognized for his hit song “In The Air Tonight” which is still widely circulated on the radio, at sporting events and on television shows/movies.
Maude Apatow
Maude Apatow has grown into the spotlight over the last couple of years after starring in the hit show Euphoria. Apatow and co-star Angus Cloud received a lot of buzz around the relationship between their characters Lexi and Fezco. This isn’t her first introduction to the entertainment world though. She also worked alongside her parents Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow in hit films like Knocked Up, Funny People and This is 40. Both parents are influential figures in Hollywood and met on the set of the 1996 comedy The Cable Guy. Since then, Mann has appeared in numerous rom coms with Apatow behind the scenes. Apatow is an American director, screenwriter and producer. He is the founder of Apatow Productions which has produced many movies we know and love such as SuperBad, Step Brothers and Wanderlust.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Academy award-winning actress and businesswoman Gwyneth Paltrow grew up in the Entertainment industry being the daughter of producer and director Bruce Paltrow and Tony award-winning actress Blythe Danner. Danner appeared on the television series Huff which landed her two Emmys. She also played Dina Byrnes in the Focker franchise. Similar to Aniston, Paltrow’s parents (especially her mother) did not want her to continue on the same path and begin acting. She did not want Paltrow to experience the rejection that comes with the industry, but thankfully she didn’t listen.
Dakota Johnson
Dakota Johnson’s situation is unique. For her, acting has been passed down through generations. Her grandmother, Tippi Hedren, is an American actress best known for her roles in director Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds and Marnie. Hedren passed the torch to her daughter, Melanie Griffith. Griffith started out modeling at a young age. She met with director Arthur Penn for what she thought was a modeling job, however, it was an audition for his movie Night Moves. Although hesitant at first to perform in front of a camera, it was then her film and television career began. Griffith had several ups and downs during her career but won a Golden Globe for best actress in Working Girl. In 1989, Griffith welcomed Johnson into the world. Johnson is best known for her role in the Fifty Shades film series and was featured in Forbes 30 under 30 list.
While some celebrities knew from the start they would follow in their parents footsteps, other duos in the industry might come as a shock. Who knows where these eight infamous celebrities would be if their parents were not Hollywood icons as well.
