Black Mirror Season 7 Launches With a Surprise Twist

Black Mirror season 7 is now streaming — featuring six new episodes, surprise screenings, star-studded panels, and an in-universe mobile game!

Black Mirror is back and darker than ever. Season 7 of Charlie Brooker’s Emmy-winning anthology series officially premiered on April 10, 2025, with six brand-new episodes exploring tech-fueled terror, twisted timelines, and a long-awaited return to the USS Callister universe. Netflix pulled out all the stops with a packed launch week, including immersive events, live fan screenings, star appearances from Rashida Jones, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Emma Corrin, and even the debut of Black Mirror: Thronglets, a mobile game based on the new episode “Plaything.” Here’s everything you need to know about the explosive new season.

A Stellar Launch Week, Black Mirror-Style

The buzz began on Monday, April 7, when the SAG-AFTRA Foundation hosted an advance screening of the season’s opening episode, “Common People,” exclusively for SAG-AFTRA members. The screening was followed by a live Q&A featuring stars Rashida Jones and Tracee Ellis Ross, moderated by Harper’s Bazaar’s Digital Culture Editor, Bianca Betancourt. The episode gave early viewers a haunting glimpse of what’s to come, setting the tone for the season’s signature blend of chilling satire and tech paranoia.

On Tuesday, April 8, Black Mirror fans in London stepped into a real-life sci-fi scenario with an immersive experience unlike any other. Attendees were invited to a supposed product launch by TCKR Systems—the fictional tech company known to fans of the Black Mirror universe. They were introduced to the NUBBIN, a neural implant designed to integrate with human cognition. Of course, in true Black Mirror fashion, the launch turned out to be a ruse, leading to surprise early screenings of all six new episodes of Season 7. Over 300 guests were encouraged to “escape reality for the night,” fully immersing themselves in the world of Black Mirror.

Meanwhile, Tudum.com livestreamed a fan event featuring a gamified watch-along of the original “USS Callister” episode. Packed with Easter eggs and callbacks, the stream amped up anticipation for the highly awaited sequel episode, “USS Callister: Into Infinity.” Fans were treated to a surprise Q&A with Executive Producers Charlie Brooker and Jessica Rhoades, followed by the exclusive premiere of the first few minutes of the sequel—sending the internet into a frenzy.

By Wednesday, April 9, the buzz was global. A special screening and Q&A were held for episode 3, “Hotel Reverie,” at the iconic BFI Southbank in London. The event featured star Emma Corrin, series creator and executive producer Charlie Brooker, director Haolu Wang, and more. Hosted by Ella E. Jones, the panel delved into the making of the episode, which blends gothic horror aesthetics with digital-age dread.

The surprises didn’t stop there. On April 10, Netflix launched Black Mirror: Thronglets, a mobile game tied directly to episode 4, “Plaything.” In the episode, viewers are introduced to Thronglets, adorable pixel-art critters born from 1990s experimental software created by fictional Tuckersoft programmer Colin Ritman (a recurring name from the Bandersnatch timeline).

The mobile game allows players to hatch, feed, and evolve their very own Thronglets—tiny digital lifeforms that multiply quickly and begin to demand more of your time… and maybe even your mind. As the tagline goes: “This isn’t a game. It’s a life form.” The game is now live on the Netflix Mobile App, complete with a retro trailer and hundreds of Thronglets to discover.
