Bachelor Biography

Cam Ayala entered Bachelor Nation as a contestant on Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette in 2018. Ayala, a sales manager from Texas, got an early edge in the competition to win Brown’s heart when he was chosen to meet her ahead of time during the After The Final Rose special for Colton Underwood’s season.

Ayala made an impression by greeting Brown with an original rap, which was just the tip of the iceberg for Ayala’s memorable moments on the show.

Ayala spent his time on Brown’s season following his mantra for staying true to himself: “ABC: Always Be Cam.” This resulted in Ayala stirring up drama among the men throughout the season, including a slew of date interruptions–even showing up to a group date he wasn’t invited on with a bouquet of flowers for Brown.

“I wanted to affirm my intentions with her and let her know I know what her expectations are. She’s looking for a man who’s going to be bold. She’s looking for a man who’s going to break out of his comfort zone and push the conventions. And in this experience, you’ve got to do things to try to make a difference.”

Despite pushback from several of the men for interrupting their date, Brown seemed to appreciate the gesture.

“Thank you for just coming out tonight and making me know that you’re thinking of me,” she told him. “It was a good surprise.”

Ayala’s antics didn’t bode in his favor for long, though. When he pulled Brown aside to let her know about various incidents from his past–from nearly losing his leg, to losing a puppy and the passing of his grandmother–fellow contestant Mike Johnson warned her that Ayala thought he was going home and may have opened up to Brown in hopes of getting a “pity rose.” She ultimately sent him home in week three.

Ayala’s decision to “Always Be Cam” may not have won over Brown, but it did land him a spot in Paradise as he joined the cast of Bachelor in Paradise for season six. Ayala was only in Paradise for two weeks, but he did manage to squeeze in another epic original rap to mark his Bachelor journey.

Where is he now?

After leaving Paradise, Ayala headed back to Texas. He left his job as a sales manager to go on The Bachelorette, and now he has a new career as a compression therapy consultant.

Ayala celebrated his one-year anniversary in his new role in September 2020 with an Instagram post where he also opened up about his mental health struggles post-Bachelor.

“After getting off [The Bachelorette] I was pretty lost…battling with PTSD, depression, and lack of self-worth,” he said. “But THEN @medicalsolutionssupplier gave my life a PURPOSE which is to help as many #Lymphedema #Lipedema and #venousdisease patients as I humanly can.”

Ayala was diagnosed with lymphedema in 2002, and continues to use his platform to advocate for other lymphedema patients.
