Apple TV+ has unveiled the official trailer for its highly anticipated two-part documentary event, Number One on the Call Sheet, which premieres on Friday, March 28.
Produced by Jamie Foxx, Kevin Hart, Datari Turner, and Dan Cogan, the documentary provides an intimate look at the journeys, challenges, and triumphs of Black leading men and women in Hollywood.
The event is divided into two films: Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood, directed by Reginald Hudlin, and Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Women in Hollywood, directed by Shola Lynch. The films feature candid interviews with some of the industry’s most influential figures, offering a deep dive into their experiences, the hurdles they have overcome, and their contributions to shaping Hollywood.
Angela Bassett, one of the documentary’s executive producers, shared her excitement about the project: “Number One on the Call Sheet celebrates the grit, strength, and brilliance of those who came before us while uplifting the next generation. It’s an honor to pay homage to the legends and shine a light on the limitless possibilities ahead for Black and brown talent.”
Reginald Hudlin, who helmed the segment on Black leading men, emphasized the universal appeal of these stories: “This is the honest testimony of successful people who overcame all types of obstacles to make their dreams come true. It doesn’t matter what business you’re in—learning about their mindset, their grit, and their unique definitions of success will be inspirational to every viewer.”
Meanwhile, Shola Lynch, director of the Black leading women segment, reflected on the historical importance of the documentary: “We don’t have this kind of collective testimonial from any period of film history. It made me determined to create a vision that honors and reflects both their individual journeys and a collective truth.”
The star-studded lineup for the documentary includes John Boyega, Don Cheadle, Idris Elba, Laurence Fishburne, Morgan Freeman, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B. Jordan, Will Smith, and Denzel Washington, among many others. On the women’s side, notable contributors include Halle Berry, Viola Davis, Whoopi Goldberg, Taraji P. Henson, Nia Long, Octavia Spencer, and Gabrielle Union.
Apple TV+ continues to build an impressive slate of original documentary films, with Number One on the Call Sheet joining award-winning projects like Sidney, STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie, and Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me.
