Amy Schumer Says Trolls Lead to Cushing Syndrome Diagnosis

Amy Schumer revealed that online criticism about her moon face appearance ultimately led to her discovering a life-changing medical diagnosis.

During an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper, the 43-year-old comedian shared that she was initially dismissive of the online backlash about her “moon face” appearance. “A year ago, the Internet really came for me,” Amy Schumer said. “I was like, ‘Okay, everybody, like, relax.’”

However, when medical professionals began leaving comments online suggesting potential diagnoses, Amy Schumer took notice. “Doctors were chiming in the comments and they were like, ‘No, no … something’s really up. Your face looks so crazy,’” she explained.

Physicians suspected Amy Schumer might have Cushing syndrome, a condition caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of cortisol, often linked to extended steroid use. Symptoms can include weight gain, acne, and a distinctive facial swelling known as “moon face.”

Amy Schumer initially dismissed the idea, saying, “At first, I was like, ‘F—k off,’” but eventually reconsidered. She realized her history of receiving steroid injections for scars from her breast reduction and C-section surgeries might be the cause.

“I wouldn’t have known if the Internet hadn’t come for me so hard,” Amy Schumer admitted, adding that she was diagnosed with Cushing syndrome in early 2024.
