Adele is preparing for her first ever hosting gig on ‘Saturday Night Live’ on October 24th
In a surprise move, British singer Adele announced that she would be tapping into her funny bone and hosting the October 24th episode. The announcement was made from Adele herself on her Instagram. Since Adele likes to keep her social media sparse, this is one of the few platforms where the singer can truly connect with fans. She took a break from Instagram from December 2019 to May this year, when she posted a photo to mark her 32nd birthday. In her latest post about her hosting gig, which lists her name and the musical guest, Adele talks about her excitement in the caption.
“Bloooooody hellllll I’m so excited about this!! And also absolutely terrified! My first ever hosting gig and for SNL of all things!!!!”
As the caption went on, Adele elaborated on the significance of this moment for her.
“Itll be almost 12 years to the day that I first appeared on the show, during an election…which went on to break my career in America, so it feels full circle and I just couldn’t possibly say no!”
Adele has performed on the live comedy variety show twice, but only as a musical guest. The first time was in 2008 when Adele was just a new name on the music scene. The episode she appeared in, which included an unexpected appearance by then US vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, earned the program its best ratings in 14 years with 17 million viewers. Adele performed “Chasing Pavements” and “Cold Shoulder,” from her debut album ‘19.’ The following day, ‘19’ topped the iTunes charts while ‘Chasing Pavements’ rose into the top twenty five. By the time she returned to the show, Adele had won ten Grammys and an Oscar. In 2015 Matthew McConaughey hosted the episode where Adele teased her latest album ‘25’ by singing ‘When We Were Young.’
Many have taken this rare appearance from Adele as a confirmation of a new album. Afterall, Adele rarely steps out in a public manner unless to promote an album or champion a charity. However, Adele has confirmed she is only hosting the episode. Unlike many singers who host ‘SNL,’ Adele is not taking on double duty. The musical guest is H.E.R (Gabriella Wilson). She was recently nominated for five awards at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for ‘I Used to Know Her’ and Song of the Year for ‘Hard Place’. Adele is obviously a big fan of the artist and took the opportunity to shout her out in her post.
“I am beside myself that H.E.R will be the musical guest!! I love her SO much I can’t wait to melt into a flaming hot mess when she performs, then confuse myself while I laugh my arse off in between it all.”
Many celebrities shared in our anticipation for Adele’s debut as a host. Katy Perry supported her longtime friend by commenting, “OMG THE PPL ARE GONNA FINALLY KNOW HOW FUNNY YOU ARE NOW BLESS UP!” Fellow former host, Wonder Woman herself Gal Gadot also wished the artist luck, “Enjoy the awesome ride! ” She even got the stamp of approval from ‘SNL’ superstar Justin Timberlake. The ‘Sexyback’ singer who has hosted the show to critical acclaim five times said, “I AM ABOUT THIS!!!!!!” Are you as excited about Adele’s hosting gig as they are?
