A new series called Primo is taking over, Adela Paez talks about the show’s success and why it resonates with viewers.
A new show is on Amazon Freevee called Primo, and viewers cannot get enough!
The series is a coming-of-age comedy that follows Rafa (Ignacio Diaz-Silverio), a 16- year-old teen who balances high school, societal expectations, and family.
Adela Paez, who plays Denise, the quick-witted wife of Jay (Jonathan Media) and the aunt of Rafa, talked with AfterBuzz TV about what it’s like being on a successful show and where she would like her character to go next.
The series instantly became a hit since its debut, earning 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, something Paez couldn’t be happier about.
“I was not expecting that. It’s been daunting and exciting at the same time. There was a woman that I used to see at Universal Studios, COVID check-in, and I remember her telling me one day when I was checking in that she prayed every night for the show and that she prayed for the people in it. She was praying for success because we needed a show like this for our culture. I thought, oh my God, this is way bigger than I ever realized.” Explained Paez.

The series highlights the importance of family and comes across as relatable, which resonates with the fans. Paez says this was very important to her and why the show is doing well.
“This is the first show that is truly an honest, relatable story that resonates with Mexican American families across the country and anywhere.” Explained Paez. “I feel like when you normally watch shows that depict Mexican-American families, they are typically very stereotypical. They make them very big characters, and they’re just not believable or relatable in any way.”
With the success of the show, it will be no surprise if the series gets renewed for a season 2, and Paez can’t wait to see what’s in store for her character.
“I would like to see more of her relationship with her sister-in-law. I want to see more interaction between her and Angela. I think that there are many funny moments to be had between them.” Explained Paez.
