A24 Movies That You Missed and Need to Watch!

Everybody loves A24, the production company behind indie movie hits such as ‘Midsommar’ and ‘Everything Everywhere all at Once’. However, there are a few that aren’t as well known and might have just gone under your radar which cannot be missed.

A24 has made some amazing films over the years and while there are certainly ones that have gotten tons of attention, others never got the recognition they deserved. Here is a list of 5 that might have flown under your radar.

Close

Close is a Flemish movie that was released in 2023 and follows two young boys and the beautiful friendship they find. When the pressures of school get in between them, the fallout changes the course of their lives forever. Close is one of the most moving depictions of friendship made in the last few years. The beautiful shots of the tulips which one of the main characters’ families grow on their tulip farm are unforgettable and unique to this film’s story and cinematography. Close is an absolute must-see A24 film.

Stop Making Sense

Stop Making Sense is a one-of-a-kind movie because it shows the raw and unmatched energy of a Talking Heads concert, which is not only unique to this film, but also in general as the band is no longer performing. Originally released in 1984 and re-released in 2023,  the pure chemistry between the musicians on stage, and David Byrne’s jump-through-the-screen energy as a performer definitely classifies it as an A24 film you need to watch, even if you’re not a Talking Heads super fan. Oh, and the whopping 100% on Rotten Tomatoes doesn’t hurt either.

Talk to Me

Talk to Me is another one of A24’s thrilling and yet perfectly intimate horror films, following suit from the likes of Midsommar, Hereditary, and X, that follows a group of friends who figure out how to conjure spirits as a fun party trick, until they take it too far. Talk to Me is an Australian film, which might be part of why you missed it, but this movie will have you on the edge of your seat through your entire watch and leave nothing unseen, which earned it a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. Don’t watch this movie right before bed, but definitely, definitely, watch it!

Earth Mama

Earth Mama is another heartwrencher, so watch this movie when you’re ready to sit down and feel. Earth Mama is about a young black single mother who already has two children in foster care. She must fight for her family, while deciding whether or not to fight for her next child on the way, or give it a chance at an easier life. With a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a breathtaking breakout performance from Tia Nomore, this A24 film is one you need to watch. Dominic Fike also has a wonderful role in this movie, for all the music lovers out there who appreciate A24 as well.

You Hurt My Feelings

For a lighter watch, You Hurt My Feelings is a drama comedy starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus that will make you laugh just as much as it makes you evaluate all the relationships in your life that have stood the test of time. You Hurt My Feelings details the importance of honesty in relationships, especially about things that might be better kept as secrets. Using dry humor to bolster the more serious, and quite frankly profound moments in this film, the question it asks is clear: is honesty always the best policy?
