7 Things You Didn’t Know About Pauline Chalamet!

There is another talented Chalamet we need to know more about; Pauline Chalamet! Here are 7 things you may not know about the breakout star of Mindy Kaling’s The Sex Lives of College Girls!

Although she says she relates to her character, Kimberly Finkle, a relatable, naive and quirky college girl in The Sex Lives of College Girls, actress Pauline Chalamet is being humble as she actually is a cool girl in real life.

If you have recognized the familiar last name, that’s right, Pauline is Timothée Chalamet’s older sister! The power duo have love and respect for each other as Pauline speaks fondly of her brother and is “in awe of the work that he does and the projects he works on.” She adds, “Timothée is a hard worker. When I see him on the big screen, for me that’s just the result of his job.” And the support is mutual, she tells Vanity Fair that Timothée “has come to almost every screening of a short film I’ve written or directed or acted in.” Even though she has seen her brother’s transformation to a global teenage heartthrob, he is still a little brother to her, “I don’t really experience the frenzy around him. I guess it’s kind of crazy, but it doesn’t affect my life at all.”

We adore Pauline’s Emily in Paris life living in France where she has spent the past several years. In an interview with W Magazine she says, “I definitely feel like Paris is my home. Although that doesn’t stop me from wanting to do touristy stuff.” In The Sex Lives of College Girls, Kimberly gets tutored by her crush and fluent French speaker Pauline admits, “The hardest part was pretending I can’t speak French.” But the Parisian actress learned a hack, “I figured it’d be easy for me: I just had to copy my mother’s strong American accent!”

She’s a bookworm reading one book a week on average and had a career in copy editing, “I loved it. I love grammar. I’m obsessed,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. Not only is Pauline intellectual, but she has always been involved in the art world training her creativity. She has a background in ballet attending the School of American Ballet from the age of eight. But she realized she wanted to pursue performing with more of a verbal role saying, “I loved being on a stage but what I lacked was to speak.” She then attended and graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where Timothée also later enrolled. After a lifetime’s history with the arts, surprisingly in college she tried to steer clear from anything that she considered “too artistic,” “By the time I graduated from high school, though, I was in a bit of a rebellious phase towards everything I had known growing up.” She graduated from Bard College double majoring in theater and political science, pursuing a totally different career, “I was hell-bent on becoming a lawyer.”

From working as a copy editor to a dog walker, she’s had a wide array of jobs and some stories to share. She told Bazaar, “Once I was asked to half-babysit, half-bartend. The parents were like, ‘Set up all the alcohol there on that table, you can bartend, but also watch these eight kids running around.’” Exploring different fields, she came full circle and ended up realizing she wanted to be involved in the arts world and says she desires to continue her acting and directing.

Pauline is an accredited actress winning Best Actress at the IndieXFilmFest for a short French film she acted in. You might also be familiar with her appearance in Pete Davidson’s The King of Staten Island playing Maude Apatow’s high school best friend, Joanne. Back in 2020, the rising actress also starred in a Shakespeare zoom production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream featuring fellow actors such as Tommy Dorfman, Outerbanks star Drew Starkey, along with iconic “unca jahms” Julia Fox.
